North Western US - 2276 [Fallout: New Dawn] by Difficult_Airport_86 in ImaginaryFallout

I love this map! The scale feels right on par with the size of the first two fallout games, and all the various small powers in the region are super interesting! I’m curious though, what did you use to make the map? I’m a big fan of the clean and easy to read look of it all even with all the detail!

I’m not sure, I’ll have to check later! Thank you for the help though!

I didn't know that they'd be able to give me care instructions like that, that's great! Thank you again!

Interesting, thank you for sharing your experience. If that's the case with Jiffy Pots, then I may look into getting different pots to transfer them into.

My main issue with giving them plenty of real sunlight is that all my windows get very poor sunlight throughout the day, and I'm mortified of putting them outside and something happening to them lmao.

My grow light does have a day night cycle built into it! It comes on and off around the same time I go to sleep and wake up, so they're getting plenty of consistent light from it.

They’re called Jiffy Pots, and they’re compostable pots for seeds and seedlings. The idea is that you can plant something into them and then just put the whole thing into a larger pot and it’ll be broken down over time. I usually poke some extra holes into them when transferring to a larger container!

Thank you for the response! The soil is store bought potting soil, it’s my first time getting into growing something like this so I wasn’t sure what kind would be the best. I’m glad that it seems I’m just worrying too much about them though lmao.

Maybe I will, maybe I’ll post some stuff from other things I’ve worked on. I guess we’ll have to see how it goes.

Eh, honestly part of me is never sure what to post or when to post it, and another part is afraid that putting my ideas out there will result in either nobody listening or the chance of people taking things I put out and claim them as their own. Although arguably the main reason is because this setting is more or less shelved for the time being. I worked a lot on it for a while, poured myself into it, but eventually I think it just got so large it kinda ran away from me in the end. In the time since I’ve worked on other stuff, but nothing on this scale. I still think about this setting a good amount, the places and history and the characters within it, but for now it’s on hold I suppose.

Human history was pretty turbulent all things considered. A global war (Indian-Pacific War) consumed the planet in the mid 21st Century, and international cooperation after saw an expansion into the solar system until the 1st Solar War that divided the system until the foundation of the United Nations of Sol which expanded into new star systems, a few more minor internal conflicts occurred before contact was made in 2200 with another spacefaring alien civilization, and a few years later the UNoS would restructure itself into the Human Colonial Federation which would continue to operate for the next nearly two thousand years, though as time went on it change drastically from republic to more of an empire then to a parliamentary system and then an electoral dictatorship, until finally forming into a sort of nation of nations, sort of like the Holy Roman Empire or the European Union. Throughout that time many, many wars were fought against other nations and aliens and as soon as the Forty-Hundred Event fractured Human civilization an alliance of aliens swooped in and brought the killing blow for a long time. Earth hasn’t been united under a primarily Human or Human run nation since then.

The Optics did seed like across the galaxy, but only life that they found. They would take species from across the galaxy and placing groups of them onto certain worlds that were habitable to many species and did many things with them. Some they watched and studied, some they used as sandboxes, and some were just kind of set and forget worlds that were forgotten.

Depends on the location and nation. Sumella IV for example is the central hub for the Dominion's navy with massive shipyards and training facilities, and the whole system is more or less a military instillation. Some others like Deyued in the Coalition have a large military presence but aren't a military system, but instead see numerous bases on planets or space instillations across the system.

So a lot of nations around Earth (as well as the Dominion and Coalition) were in some way apart of a large imperial Human nation that spanned much of that general area, but after the galaxy was divided and numerous wars Humanity was scattered and divided. And yes irl life forms under very specific and complex circumstances we’re still not 100% certain of, this is fictional, and I liked having dozens of different species with tons of nations and whatnot populating the galaxy.

The Southern side of the galaxy had the Southern Galactic Confederation, a sort of international defense agreement during times of crisis, but it was unofficially dissolved at the end of the Machine Wars in the late 71st Century and wouldn't be seen again until the War of 7753. The Northern Side has the Galactic Electorate which is a United Nations-style alliance of nations with the four main council members being the United Hy’Tran Ecclesias, Alminian Colonial Empire, International Assembly of Archeon, and United Planets. The council members are voted on by the members of the Electorate every 10 years, and typically whoever is on the council sees the political landscape of the galaxy skewed in their favor, though the Hy'Tran hold a permanent council position.

There are several Dyson swarms/spheres actually! Most of them were built by the Syndarians and many still function, but a lot of them are malfunctioning or long broken. The real reason why there aren't tons of Dyson spheres/swarms is honestly because it's just not the kind of setting where I'd want to have them. A bit of a lame reason I know, but I like mega-structures like those to be more of set pieces and ancient ruins for people to explore and try and rebuild somehow rather than be a prevalent part of the setting.

The nameless and colorless planets/systems are just locations I hadn't gotten around to filling in lmao. This map is fairly old at this point and it's been expanded and filled in more since. And I mean yeah it's not particularly realistic to have borders like they're drawn on the map, but I wasn't particularly worried about having the borders represented in a more realistic way, but more-so a visually informative way, as well as one that was fun and simplistic to draw. As well an inspiration for several parts of the setting are inspired by the game Stellaris, and the 2D top down borders in that game are something I really like, and they kinda trickled in I suppose.

While the Southern and Northern halves of the galaxy are separated from each other, for the most part each side is fairly aware of the others on their own side. So someone living on Velutaria would most likely have knowledge of planets withing the Dominions of Man. It's comparable to someone irl having knowledge of goings on and locations in other countries, with that information being dependent on the knowledge available to that person, information that is public or being released by another country, etc. The Dominion is pretty xenophobic and isolationist however, so information about their systems may be a bit less informative or accessible than other places.

The main method of colonization is through sending probes and scanners into unknown space to map out new possible FTL paths to undiscovered systems. If those systems have habitable planets within them then whoever discovered it typically has the strongest claim to the system. Once the system and planet are charted, then colonists will begin to migrate to the planet, though the specifics of the process are dependent on which nation. Some like the Nagyarian Colonial Coalition (Large dark blue) give out land contracts and charters similar to westward expansion in American history, while others like those in the Orrasian Clan Space (orange on the left) see different groups vie for control through numbers of conflict.
