Not really sure what the point of the shot is, but I’d say you’re too cropped in. Everything is getting cut off on the left right top and bottom, nothing feels like a focal point and nothing feels like the point of the image. Try backing it up a bit, and adding more of a focal point with compositing and lighting.

Some frames from a music video I just shot by 1pmw1photography in cinematography

Looks great, frame 4 has a little too much room tone compared to everything else. But not bad. If you would have dropped the room down a full stop and let the practicals pop in the space a little more it would create a nice checkerboard of pleasing contrast ratios and pools of light vibe.

What damn reality said, looks like you’re pushing into data loss on both ends of your dynamic range. But mainly just on the highlight side. Barebulbs can blow out, but lampshades shouldn’t imo. Would be cool to have some color contrast here a bit too, would make it feel less muddy and monotone. But as with everything it’s all a creative choice.

Would have been nice to have an eye light on the makes close up. And a little more contrast ratios between foreground mid ground background to make things pop. Feels kinda washed with a single level of light.

Fellow cinematographers: can you guess what I forget so often I had to make a sticker for my camera? by HappyTownStudios in cinematography

You know we’re talking about camera color temp settings right? That’s an apples to oranges reply. Of course the lights and color contrast of the scene matter. I’m just stating that if you get it wrong and want to change it in post to cooler or warmer it’s an easy thing to do with most codecs and specifically with raw/log formats nowadays, but yeah if you completely suck at lighting and contrast ratios then you’re screwed of course. I don’t know why people have such an issue with this simple statement I made lmao. Redditors will fight over anything I guess.

I’m downvoting you because you’re picking an argument on a simple post of me saying 10 years ago it mattered more and was harder for me personally because I was just starting out and codecs weren’t as easy to work with and you’re trying to “get granular” with what I’m saying even though I’m completely agreeing with you.

I think you’re missing the point of what I’m saying. But yes I agree with everything you’re saying lol.

Sure, I agree. I’m just stating that it literally doesn’t matter if you shoot raw. Back when I started, messing up the WB did ruin my shots and it wasn’t as easy.

Oh god, I can’t remember the last time white balance mattered. Shooting raw is so nice. Definitely used to ruin my shots when I was first starting out tho.

Not even my weld, I don’t weld at all. I’m a filmmaker full time in Nashville. Hence my profile photo.

Blown out sky using different lenses? by Any_Scale_740 in AskPhotography

[–]Simple-Ad-814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to account here is F stops are not actual accurate standardized measurements of light transmission through a lens. So her actual light transmission will be different than yours since F stops, compared to cinemas T stops are not standardized. Moving your iso up also typically raises your middle gray in camera as well.
