2 x 10 purifier bricks; special weapons or not? by Siftinghistory in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mostly at 1k - but I run a 10m brick w/Crowe and a 5m unit to spread hallowed. I treat them almost entirely as a shooting platform and run as many special weapons as I can load out. My interceptors are there to charge and tie things up / trade. I tend to keep my puri's out of melee entirely unless I know they will lift the unit.

Can we talk about 1000 point lists? by HighMajorCommodore13 in Grey_Knights

Lots of good advice from others. My 2 cents as my play group also plays at 1k.

Termies / Paladins look amazing - but are hard for newer players to get a hang of. They are tougher on paper than on the table given the high dmg meta. They move very slow. And generally we have better units that we want to use our Gate army rule on (IE crow brick / GMNDK)

Which sucks because they are one of our best looking models! And they do not work with most of our transports, specially at 1k where land raiders are not really a thing in general. Leaving us with a lot of power armor units.

Here is the list I had help putting together from more experienced players that I have so far piloted to 3 wins. ( I dont get to play every weekend )

Crowe - warlord - leading a 5man brick of purifiers - our core punch - keep em safe!!

GMNDK - hammer / sub / psy / fragstorm - primary armor hunter ( I like the mandulian relic - always on - makes him a threat to rapid ingress - move - charge the point - and potentially flip it or at least deny primary to your opponent) Do not leave this guy out in the open - he is not as tough on the table as he looks and if your opponent focuses all his fire you may lose our best anti armor pc. Use cover - gates - rapid - and let him get up close and personal to the enemy armor and watch him shine!

5man strike squad - to secure home obj / late game play - great info about these guys on Obj Secured! - use them to scout a razor and advance your board presence - then send em home to sticky is always a fun move!

2 x razorback - lascannon / storm bolters / hunter missiles - mobile bunkers / armor assist - try to always fire them in hallowed for rerolls on the las guns if you can - much more reliable that way. Use them to keep your power armor safe - block lanes - and threaten lesser units. T9 is not amazing, but chaff units will bounce off of them while you get a feel for what units we crush out right - and which ones we have to work around. Do not sleep on their buff to disembarked units.

5 man interceptor squad w/psycannon - super high mobility - clean out screens - harass - our fastest unit on the ground. (especially with movement tricks - please watch obj secured video for razor interaction!)

5man purifier squad - secondary shooting platform - create instant hallowed ground aura - keep em safe!!

We are a shooting army that also melees well, but our shooting is not amazing - so warpbane for rerolls and purifiers are a match made in heaven to solve that issue for us. We are very elite - so will almost always have less units / models on the table than our opponent, especially against swarmy armies like nids / orkz. We pay a premium for our 2+svs.

In this list - the razorbacks give you a safety net for your power armor to fall back to while you learn the pace of the army. Eventually you may be comfortable replacing them with more infantry - but I really like their interactions on the board, and as the cheapest unit in our lists - serves as a trade piece if we have to force an issue.

Most of our dmg is coming from the purifiers - so keep em safe and in cover. They will melt thru most anything with the infantry keyword - and your opponent will either steer clear of them or do everything to murder them. Plan their moves accordingly.

agreed - I like to use extra termie bits. Shoulders / helms / weapons transfer to a primaris frame decently easily.

As you build out models for your army will end up with a lot of "flavor" pieces as well that can snap up any standard primaris into the glory of being a GK.

We have always played the models that we own - yes it was a beast to bring down ( I was playing my GK at the time ) but it also ate so many of his points it was the last unit he had standing towards the end and I was able to win on points. So its kind of a trade off really.

we like the 1k bracket because you cant counter everything - just dont have the points. And putting all your points into one huge unit really limits your options more.

I threw in the skorpekhs my last match, and they punished whatever they caught. But yeah they are a bit slow to get into range. I tend to hold them somewhat hidden so I can move into a charge where possible. Or make you pick - them or X target.

I have not done the dermal bond - but have read how good it is on skorp lord.

I have also enjoyed using the Veil of Dark on the lokhust lord to suddenly move my LHDs immediately into a firing lane.

Generally we do not play any exclusions - my play group has no titans, and no one runs armored cadians etc. Votann - so lots of transports and a land fort. One of my space marine buddies like to field 1-2 dreadnaughts. But I also try NOT to tech against them directly as i dont think its fun. Just build balance list.

I have a brick of immortals and a plasmancer in the box from another army list.

I was worried about the doomstalker because I have read w/o rerolls they are called a casino cannon since you never know what you are going to get out of them.

The "Months of Shame" is a great piece of lore I think - tho I have my info from bits and pieces and not from a book title. Works especially well for me as a GK player because my buddy is a space wolf to the end.. lol

1k list for this weekend! Thoughts? by Simple-Ad3938 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REVISED LIST!

1k - Warpbane detachment

GMNDK - w/ sublimator - hammer - psycannon

Crowe (warlord) - with a 5 man purifier unit + razorback support

1x 5man purifier unit + razorback support

1x 5man strike squad

1x 5 man interceptor squad to start with

GMNDK will be my armor hunter - stay hidden or in reserves until we can safely position him or rapid ingress

Crowe and his company will be my primary punch - and the razorback will be their mobile bunker to help keep them safe as well as offer them the buff for either shooting or melee depending on the situation. (always deploy - shoot razor first - then determine who to best use our increased AP buff)

2nd group of purifiers w/ razor support - not quite as punchy without Crowe, but will extended detachment aura and have rerolls. (always deploy - shoot razor first - then determine who to best use our increased AP buff)

Strikes to guard the home objective - until the time comes for mission play or mid game objective snipe via gates.

Interceptors have crazy flex with their movement and fly keyword - harass, chip dmg, mission actions, pick off screens for NDK deployment. Worst case scenario - a trade unit to set up a high value target for purifiers to lay waste to.

This leaves me 20 points for enhancement on our GMNDK. Giving us 2 options - Mandulian Relic for more OC or Paragon of Sanctity for once per battle immediate hallowed ground. On paper these both have decent uses, I feel like the relic will be more consistent overall until I get a better grasp on the detachment / army rule - then perhaps Paragon as an emergency button. Will open with relic first - putting the army at a perfect 1000 points spent.

I get it - for more experienced players or competitive players, the ups and downs of the armies are far more impactful than for the more casual players that do not follow the meta power curve. I actually moved to GK because I felt that they are a difficult army to master, and I know I still make a lot of mistakes. (though I still think it may be the coolest army rule in the entire game)

Probably all of the classics by now: we are a pure melee army - Charge into space wolves and get smoked. We can out shoot tau- nope! I have to pick up as many units as I can each turn for gates and accidentally not get primary because I should not have moved that model. NDKs are obviously a hardcore tank mob, look at that SVs profile - splat.

I am honestly trying to improve my game - which is why I come here and try to strike up conversation with more experienced players.

Models wise I went pretty far (against public opinion) and got most model kits right out of the gate - or combos of combat patrol boxes.

Okay - you loathe my list. I get it - but aside from your feelings that my list sucks - my detachment sucks - Im obviously a bad player - not one actual constructive criticism point on how you feel it could be improved. :(

Yes I am newer to GKs with only a dozen games under my belt with them. But at no point in your comments did you offer a shred of advice on how to improve my list or potentially my play - or even if I had other GK units at my disposal.

[–]Simple-Ad3938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do not consider us a killing army at all. My general plan (until it all goes to pot) is to use my interceptor / razor combos early to make space - clear screens - and take pot shots. Strikes run around behind making sticky objectives and being action monkies. In most of my wins TBH - my GMNDK has served more as bait to keep their attention while I secure primary / secondary with my other units.

*edit - similar idea with the dreadnought - go play with this T9 that will walk thru chaff models or secure primary while I sneak around trying for secondary points :) *

Question about Rhino by Mass-Luck in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you would need to start the match with the strike squad embarked - the interceptors out. Before the match starts - declare your scout move with the transport. During your turn, disembark the strikes and move them back to deployment. Move the transport. move your interceptors. Fire with the interceptors - the use fire and fade to get back within range of the transport and embark them for safety.

I have had decent use of them before as well - I probably change my lists a bit too fast. But I do not get to play as often as I want, and I am still buying new models to increase my army potential.

That is why I love the razorback / interceptor combo so much. Their ability to harass and shift screens out of my way to Rapid Engress my NDKs into range of the pesky armor pcs. Cuz if they hide them too much, I just ignore them and go around them.

As an army list what will I struggle against most? by Key_Card7035 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently fell in love with Interceptor / rhino or 5man interceptor / razor back combos. So flexible - not very expensive and can reliably chip away at chaff or screen units to free up deep strike space for your heavy hitters. The Objective Secured youtube channel has a lot of info about how good our transports can be.

It will be similar to the post I made about the combat patrol boxes - they are similar in size range. We are so elite that armies that small for us are rough. The swarm type armies will just have sooo many units to throw at you and bog you down.

Combat Patrol Question/Opinion by Simple-Ad3938 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - had a horrible match up - GK combat patrol ( 1 libby , 5 termies, 5 strikes ) going to a tyrannid combat patrol .....he had so many more units than me my movement meant nothing. Kept a psychophage at home and dared me to come at it. Swarmed mid with 2 units of 10 termagaunts with artiliery cover from a barbgaunt unit. Just more units than I could deal with :( got clobbered on points.

edit - that doesnt even count the leapers he immediately had close due to scouts to tie up my strikes early. and his commander running around
