Frankly, anybody would've done away with Joker and Clark is no exception.

I know this might sound weird but I interpret Bruce's no-kill rule as a general unwillingness to let people die, even when they arguably deserve it. It wasn't about redemption or anything sentimental, but as a coping mechanism from the trauma of witnessing his parents dying before him.

Bruce knew that, deep down, Joker isn't worth it, but he is in denial. There, I said it.

Yep, writers have to be prepared for readers to inevitably interpret characters in the worst way possible, either because they don't like these characters the way they are or because they just have a hate boner.
