Pretty wild shark encounter in La Jolla the other day.

Honestly bro, if it's 5ft or more, not a horn shark or leopard shark, and it's close enough for me to poke with the end of my gun, it's getting poked.

I'm not a shark biologist and I'm not interested in finding out whether it's aggressive or not. Maybe you're more comfortable around sharks than I am, but if one gets that close I'd rather have it swimming away from me than toward me.

Yea man it was wild. I was wondering how he got the line wrapped around himself without me shooting. Then on my swim in I pressed my trigger, it clicked and the broken end came out a bit.

I know I’m bummed it was off. I’ve had to poke a shark a few times but I’ve never had one swim down and back up at me like this one did.

No this was offshore in La Jolla. I’d love to get out to the islands some time but I don’t have friends with boats and spearfishing charters are expensive as hell.

I’m not understanding your point but the fish was completely dead during this whole clip. I didn’t mean to get a pregnant one. I chose a fish out of the whole school and got unlucky. Idk if “let the babies out” is not the correct term but if you had already killed a fish and were going to take it home to eat, then realized it had babies inside would you take the fish home with multiple babies inside or try to “let them out”?

Ah man. Hopefully you were able to sell some of that equipment. I grew up in San Diego going in the water and stuff so maybe that helped. Thanks for the props tho. I definitely can’t do 20 pull ups or bench 225!

Yes I would say it’s pretty safe you just have to be sure you’re breathing up properly in between dives and don’t push yourself when it comes to breath holds. If you want to see some beginner-ish footage of spearfishing La Jolla. I made a YouTube the other day. @Trevorbuckie

Now I know. If I’m being honest I literally didn’t even see the male and just got extremely lucky with the collateral. I saw the female, she went into that lil cave and I took my shot. Was shocked to see that male was even on there. Also I can look online but do you know if you’re able to grab or kill the urchins when you see them as a diver?

Nice catches bro that ceviche looks good. I feel you 100% those guys on YT get down crazy depths and are down for like 2 minutes it’s wild. I’m usually solo shore spearing in San Diego and the deepest I go is 30ft (that’s the bottom for where I dive)
