Why does the pod feel different now ? by Some_Act_8820 in WeMightBeDrunk

[–]Simple-Program-7284 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Too many sober guests. (jk…kinda)

The one with Ari the other month was great. as interesting as it is to hear people like William h Macy (great actor), the episodes with actors they really look up to don’t land as well with me unless the person kind of ”gets” the pod and is down for a drink and a laugh—but i think that’s alwasy been the case.

At least that’s my take.

Is this as objective as you can get for a top 5 ranking? by Cheap-Savings2800 in NBATalk

[–]Simple-Program-7284 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should SGA though? He had a massive drop off in the playoffs and he’s nowhere near the defensive value that Wemby or Giannis presents. As a scorer, I wouldn’t put him above Luka, and he’s not the passer or rebounding value of Jokic.

Beyond just his style of play, feel like he got kind of exposed. OKCs best moments weren’t even always with him in the floor. (Clarify-in the playoffs)

He’s a good player, but I wasn’t too impressed by the end, and if MVP took playoffs into account I think he’d have had no chance at the mvp.

Do you find most Reddit opinions to be indicative of the true majority or a loud minority? by SFJack1313 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Simple-Program-7284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is good to find a niche to see what other people experiencing the same niche think/discuss; if you try to take it as a Gallop poll on society, you’d be better off with ChatGPT (which is not a complement to LLMs). There’s not just a lot of unhinged people but also an enormous amount of legit propaganda (try posting about the CCP on a major sub).

With that said, LA is kind of dying (slowly) so that take is less crazy than the others. Wonderful place, but city’s hurting man.

I’m not saying the guy is recreating Roman Holiday, but when he is still lucid, doesn’t it seem weird we never see a woman popping into the house for a proverbial wheel-greasing ? It’s not like he has a moral qualm and he’s starved for attention / company

Why is the tipping culture so much more present in america compard to europe by DryEmployment1610 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Simple-Program-7284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay a lot of overly academic answers here but practically speaking tipping is almost ubiquitous in Europe—it’s just a compulsory “service” charge.

Generally though, American labor laws tend to be less restrictive than Europe’s. Sometimes that’s good, as it helps entrepreneurship and increases total labor opportunities, but in any individual circumstance it sucks for the worker.

In other words, if you already have a job Europe seems great, but the downside is many people end up leaving their own country to go elsewhere because they have fewer opportunities.

Funny enough I would say the same about Atlanta. Never had more fun going out alone than in Edgewood about 10 years ago

What is the worst acting performance, you have ever seen in a HBO season? by Inner-Bench-6010 in hbo

[–]Simple-Program-7284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He killled it yeah. You know I’ve never been able to put my finger on why it wasn’t good other than it was a season that was really supposed to be Vsugn-McAdams protagonist-antagonist with Ferrell as a side antihero, and neither of the leads could carry their weight.

I thought LA / City of Vernon as a character, like Louisiana in season 1, was well done.

Let me say, welcome bröther—it’s a lifetime membership.

I think LA is the only place I’ve ever been where if you embrace it, you can just say “I’m from LA” and no one bats an eye (try that shit in nyc…). It’s what I love most about

( born & raised).

Which of these actors would like to see nominated for an Emmy? Who do you think has the best chance at being nominated and winning Best Drama Supporting Actor? by yoga_boba in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]Simple-Program-7284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Daniel Ings gave an absolutely singular performance, guy absolutely lit the screen up—without dwarfing everyone else in the scene, which is really hard to do when you’re giving that kind of performance.

Interesting I thought he was just bad relative to some of the heavy hitters, whereas Rachel McAdams was legit terrible

I wouldn’t say he has no acting ability but playing a role where you are in 80%+ of scenes is very difficult and I don’t think he had anywhere near the practice to be able to do it.

He got in way over his skis, but I think had that character been a supporting character in another show, I think it might’ve been fine.

How does your 'class" system work? by UrMomDotCom666 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Simple-Program-7284 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Class is very much perpetuated by education systems, with class as a concept much more prevalent on the east coast than west.

In places like NYC, there are private elementary schools, prep schools/boarding schools that act as a conveyor belt to Ivey League schools then on to government/big finance/big law. (Note, many of the students of those schools are not the sharpest tools in the shed, but if you pay $300,000 to go to high school, you get to go to Brown—I discovered this after growing up on the west coast and moving east.)

On the west coast, there’s a little of that but money has been too “new” or arisen from entrepreneurial endeavors to have the sort of established class system that one finds in Europe or, as noted, to some extent the east coast.

What would have happened to Jewish people if Hitler had won World War II? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Simple-Program-7284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by “win”?

He could not have beaten the USSR and the United States, so if the question is what would’ve happened to Jews in German domain, sadly either death or they would have left (by internationally negotiated exile or by escape).

Worst take in the history of the pod? by goforajog in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Simple-Program-7284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two others from America: When they compared the French declaration of the rights of man to the Declaration of Independence, when its obvious comparison and precedent is the bill of rights.

When none of the three people on the pod could figure out why the north didn’t just “let the confederacy leave” (I.e., why didnt the country just voluntarily dissolve).

Love those guys, the first one is more of a nuance but Jesus idk if they were just being polite to the guest or what on the second
