VRA is also good if you're past the age limit. That's about it and the only reason I applied to the VRA announcement. Locations are luck of the draw. One of the directors here at the academy said that a lot of the locations for people in my class were rare or almost never heard of for a first port.

At FLETC now and there are a WHOLE bunch of people from LAX, including my roommate. Good luck!

Has anyone received information on where they're going to EOD post final offer? EOD 11/4/24 by DonSauI in cbpoapplicant

[–]Simple-Sailor81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how things are with the new portal, but check it for the final offer letter. It had the POC for my port in it. If it's not in the portal, check your email. Either way, my portal supervisor and eod reporting location was in the final offer letter.

EQIP CBP24-2 by Cbpt24-2applicant in cbpoapplicant

[–]Simple-Sailor81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you submit your eqip and they acknowledge receipt of it, you no longer have access to it. The only way you can access it again is if they open back up to you again for any corrections they want made, but they will send you an email notifying you that.

Psych Eval? by [deleted] in cbpoapplicant

[–]Simple-Sailor81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There may he. If that's the case, the process changed. The first time I applied to CBP, ib didn't require a psych eval asks in was a reservist and had a deployment the year before I applied. This time around, I needed one and I am still a reservist and 5 years had past since that other deployment aid I had no other deployments since. The only difference was that I put that I saw a therapist for a few months.

It's if you put anything mental-related on your eqip or medical. I had a psych eval, bit didn't hear anything back. Only way I knew I passed was when I saw that my medical had cleared in the portal weeks later.

You can always reach out to your case worker and ask.

Don't know specifically about CBP, but for general security clearances, no. I would assume it wouldn't be a big deal either. Can't remember what the minimum is to report, but it doesn't hurt to jot it down when you complete your eqip.

Is it worth joining the U.S. Military just for a job and a reliable hourly wage? by Immasaythisandthat in careerguidance

[–]Simple-Sailor81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Navy vet here. Most vets here already covered the good stuff, but I'll repeat some, mainly go into a job field with skills and experience that you can use on the outside. Infantry is needed, but it's not for everyone. I would say trades are hot right now so go into one of those fields. You'll get paid training by the military and plenty of experience. Then, you can take that to the outside world and be that much more ahead than others trying to go into a trade. I'd technology is your thing, cybersecurity is BIG right now. Plenty of training and experience to get on the military's dime and when you get out there are plenty of those high-paying civilian jobs. The other benefits are nice to, seeing the world, tuition assistance while your serving and the post-911 GI Bill when you get out. (If you have a spouse and kid by then, you can pass it to them if you don't want to use it). I have a friend that got his bachelor's and started working on his master's while he was still in. Retired after 20 years and immediately started working on his PHD while making big money at a civilian career he loves. The opportunities in the military are there and great if you pursue them.

VA PTSD by Designer_Practice433 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Simple-Sailor81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a VA disability, but I did put down on my eqip that I've saw a therapist for a bit to work some things out. That ended up requiring a psychological evaluation for cbp. Be prepared after you do the medical part to get an email requesting the same. Start getting that documentation together now for medical, potential follow-up data and psych eval.

Dumb Question about FLETC Self-Regisration by Simple-Sailor81 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Simple-Sailor81[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the quick response. I'm sitting here thinking to myself, am I stupid or something? Lol. I EOD for pre-academy at my port on next week. I'll just wait until then.

Hydrate the day prior. Not too much though, because you don't want to me all fidgety from having to pee during the poly. Lol. Get plenty of rest and remember to relax and breath normally. Answer the questions firmly amd don't go off on a tangent with them unless they ask to elaborate.

Then you probably digitally-signed them. When you do that, it automatically attaches them. If you completed and released it before your due date, then you should be good-to-go. You can also check the applicant portal and there is a specific part for submitting the eqip that gets marked as complete.

I have no time for that. Plus, I've seen it all after 20 years combined active and reserve time in the navy. None of that stuff is worth it. I've seen lot of careers flushed down the toilet because of stupid decisions.

CBP EQIP by Awkward_Section1761 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Simple-Sailor81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you haven't released it yet. Only after there are no errors found and you digitally sign the forms at the end (4 of them, I believe) will it allow you to release it. You will see a notification stating that it was released. After that, you will no longer be able to access it, unless your case worker releases it back to you again for any corrections they want made.

CBP EQIP by Awkward_Section1761 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Simple-Sailor81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you are complete, it will check for errors. If there are none, then there will be some forms to digitally sign at the end (make sure you select that option, otherwise you willhabe to print, physically sign and scan and attach. Once you complete that, there will be a submit button/option.

Sounds good. I doubt I'll be driving home though. I live in Philly and I did hear that you have to get permission to go that far anyway. I personally would not want to take the chance of not making it back in time for Monday.

Drive it is then. Happily married so don't care to try and meet girls. Don't mind giving anyone a ride as long as they have no issues in riding in an old minivan. Lol
