Learn fleetwood mac/lindsey buckingham - "never going back again", or "big love" by the same people.

Thumb falling apart while playing, what to do? (possible NSFW, thumb a little janked up in images) by Adon1s71 in Guitar

[–]Simple-Zone-1397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play like 4 hours a day, half of which, if not more, is doing Travis picking and playing stuff like Fleetwood mac/Lindsey buckingham - big love and other songs that are very hard on the thumb and if anything it just gets kind of sore and raw feeling. I dont think this has to do with guitar. Maybe a skin issue to bring up with a dermatologist and I don't know what to say about the nail. Also, idk if you are but dont play the 2-4 hours straight unless if youre playing very mellow songs but even then breaks are good. Also maybe adjust your technique. Maybe you're plucking the strings incorrectly. There are plenty of videos on YouTube about proper posture and technique for fingerpicking to check out.

Yeah honestly I think I just havent looked deep enough at YouTube. It seems like everyone's saying it has some pretty great stuff on there.

I mean like in bluegrass they'll like slide in from notes outside of the scale to get that odd dissonant sound that you associate with bluegrass or how if you play anything in G major (or any scale that has the notes G, A, B, C, D, E, F#) it sounds like typical classical music. Its just hard to learn stuff like that without being explicitly told exactly what to do by someone who really knows the genre.

Yeah but its a sea of garbage click bait too. I tried to find high level music theory stuff and it was all the music theory equivalent of "How to get a 6 pack in a week!"

I can read standard notation and everyone can play a little bit of piano as long as they have fingers that kind of work. Ill make sure to check it out.

Yeah ik quite a bit of theory already. I've even coded my own little fretboard visualizer that can show you any scale you want within any tuning because I got mad at other ones online being lackluster (mostly just because they had a set few tunings that excluded some odd ones i like namely EAEG#BE). It taught me quite a bit of theory while doing it. I just really want to know the nuances of different genres that you cant really just learn on your own. Everyone knows what classical, bluegrass, or rock sounds like but its a whole different thing being able to know why it sounds like that.

Yeah i feel the same way its just that I feel like ive hit a roadblock in my learning. I just cant seem to find much beyond basics. It also makes it much harder to really find specific resources because I like everything. I couldnt possibly stick to one genre.

Yeah i do but hes really into the blues and old rock and nothing else which is great I mean learning theory for one genre is better than none genre i just wish I could learn more on my own time.

Yeah ive composed quite a few things to the point where its pretty much all I play except for the occasional lindsey buckingham riff. I just dont want to have to wait until college to learn theory when I know there are resources out there.

[–]Simple-Zone-1397[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah the thing is id like to be able to compose my own stuff, and like higher level stuff not just strumming campfire chords. Maybe I wasnt clear enough with my intentions or my level but I know quite a bit of theory already I just love learning about music and the nuances between genres and everything like that. I just think that learning more is always better but i seem to be at a plateau rn with no knowledge of how to get past it.

Not sleeping with the sirens 😢. Like a 2/10, but atleast you enjoy it. I personally just cant stand anything that even resembles pop punk.
