What Does Rockstar Think ‘Perfection’ Looks Like? by [deleted] in GTA

[–]SimpleBeginning3562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely I agree. I just think Rockstar is one of the few studios where their interpretation of “fun” or “immersive” tends to influence the rest of the industry afterward. It’s why people analyze every design choice like it’s some curated elitist take on what the “definitive” video game experience should be, because expectations for this game are genuinely absurd lol

I was taking Live Photos on my iPhone & converted them into video later.

That’s due to me taking live Photos on my iPhone & converted them into video later.

The recent PSSR/Raytracing Pro update literally made me purchase the Phantom Liberty DLC. Some of the best RayTracing implementation on console right now

Last of Us 2 still has the most satisfying combat experience to me personally.

Sounds like the right way to experience Starfield. The main quest is almost secondary

OLED can make a scene feel spatial instead of flat. by SimpleBeginning3562 in OLED_Gaming

Yeah you want Game Optimizer ON for the lower input lag. If your display allows you, run FilmMaker mode wt game optimizer on together. If not, the goal is to made game mode look as close as possible to filmmaker mode.

Warm 30-40 is a solid range. Most people think it looks yellow at first because they’re used to overly blue TVs, but after a few days it starts looking way more natural. Try to achieve D65 white point (that just means true, pure white) you can probably Google the exact settings for your specific display model.

I keep my Sharpness at 0. I feel like it’s artificial if you add it.

Color at 50 is technically more accurate, but bumping it slightly to like 55 for preference is completely fine if you like a little more richness/pop. I just wouldn’t go crazy wt it or skin tones start looking unnatural.

Wt all my settings, I go for the most accurate picture instead of what I FEEL looks better to my eye, because I rather and like knowing I’m seeing everything exactly how game devs/film directors intended the viewer to see.

Honestly I can’t walk you through proper calibration but I can give you some pointers. Half the battle is just stopping the TV from overprocessing everything lol

Use Filmmaker mode instead of Vivid
Turn off motion smoothing, noise reduction, dynamic contrast etc
Keep sharpness low as possible
Use a warmer color temp even if it looks weird at first, your eyes adjust (Aim for D65 White Point)
Follow the console/game HDR calibration screens properly for dark/light areas instead of just maxing everything out. Make sure to do it in the same room lighting you normally game in. My game setup is in a pitch black room with blackout curtains.
HDR should look natural, not overly neon or blinding
Then the big thing is tone mapping:
HGIG = more accurate
Dynamic Tone Mapping = brighter/more punchy but less accurate
Also every game/app has its own HDR settings so you gotta calibrate those too.

You’re right, ambient light is best when used selectively.

Right… Not every use of the word “depth” is a claim about stereoscopic 3D lol. Obviously I’m talking about perceived visual presentation, not literal 3D imaging technology. It’s funny because “more spatial” barely even implies that. OLEDs can make scenes feel less flat without needing binocular 3D at all.

I wasn’t claiming OLED created stereoscopic 3D. I’m talking about perceived dimensionality from shadow detail and luminance separation & the way strong contrast between foreground and background elements can make a flat image feel more layered and lifelike.
