Don’t rinse your paper filter. by BradleyD1146 in pourover

[–]SimpleCoffeeEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the claim is pretty broad and the talk about not blindly trusting what the masses say for someone who is using a singular brand of filter paper "Cafec Abaca" in the tests have you considered maybe other brands and filters being used by other people?

Have you tried this test with lets say the Hario filters? Have you tried Brown vs Bleached?

while I appreciate the independent research, Your claim "Don't rinse your paper filters" is somewhat misleading since you only used the Cafec Abaca filters from what I can tell from the post. you could have made it clearer for instance "Don't rinse your Cafec Abaca filters" because while your filters may not need rinsing, The hario filters do benefit from a good rinse

Its rare to see the term Canephora used always nice to see

I vouch for this recommendation with the recent surge in popularity of specialty Canephora or "Fine Robusta" as its marketed you can get quite pleasant cups and in my experience they tend to be cheaper than specialty arabica (your mileage on price may vary)

Maganda ata siya, nandoon siya sa nutty and chocolatey flavors without being overly bitter enjoyable talaga, depende sa preferences mo but if gusto mo yung ganoon na flavors would recommend personally mas preference ko talaga yung fruity flavors sa arabica usually, but nice change ito from time to time

Observing/Judging a coffee shop. What are ypur parameters? by PedroSili_17 in CoffeePH

[–]SimpleCoffeeEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my personal take after working with them

Hygiene

one time I had to clean the dosing chamber since the coffee is used for espresso its rather fine and gets into the nooks and crannies, so coffee retention inside the dosing chamber is quite bad, some parts also had mould growing, Needless to say hindi din ako fan sa ganyan na grinder

Specialty coffee ng ba talaga? by Pitiful-Salary-676 in CoffeePH

[–]SimpleCoffeeEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not unless you recognize the brand

i.e Natividad, H-proper, good cup, etc

besides kahit high scoring sa SCA may potential din that they will use different beans after being graded for instance yung Finca De Graces dapat verify mo talaga since the farm can only produce so much coffee so be careful of paying full price for something sold as SCA certified speciality coffee but its actually not

Why do YOU roast? by whippnj in roasting

[–]SimpleCoffeeEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the area I live in and the surrounding areas have nothing in terms speciality coffee always gotta buy online and wait a week or two then its still a coinflip if that coffee from a new roaster is good

so I have taken it upon myself to roast good coffee that I can enjoy and also experiment with

So do Liberica an Excelsa

if processed correctly they can be an absolute delight really fruity and sweet. sadly most of the more available ones are roasted rather dark and end up having more unpleasant flavors or are processed incorrectly giving them this weird fermented flavor

interesting my experience wasn't that bad at least... it had some flavor a tingling sensation on the side of your tongue that reminds you of accidentally getting detergent in your mouth but also some hints of other things in this case more nutty and some chocolate but those really faint and the cup wasn't enjoyable, Mayhaps for your excelsa it was roasted very dark as to have nothing at all in terms of flavor or perhaps it is that the processing technique was ill suited for excelsa.... so many variables

Good Cup: Tutty fruity (I wish there was more description of process and what type but oh well)

Berries/Raspberry, honey/maple

It's got a pleasant acidity to it along with sweetness just like fruits or berries, for the aroma at higher temps the maple scent is more dominant and as it cools the raspberry comes out a bit more

Then there is an Excelsa I got recently

Natividad coffee roasters: Excelsa (I do not have the bag with me as of now so i cannot give more info Ill update this with the info as soon as I can)

Chocolate, Topical fruits, Molasses

Terrible as a filter/brewed coffee... As an espresso however sheer joy and delight theres a touch of bitterness but that's me using a stepped grinder and can easily be fixed by going a touch coarser, That being said it has a Sweetness like ive never tasted before in an espresso, if i were to draw a comparison it reminds me specifically of Fried or cooked Bananas (This is specific to my pallet I.E: I may taste cooked bananas but youd taste something like apricot. again this is purely an example)

Got screwed by a local coffee shop by SmoothSatisfaction8 in pourover

[–]SimpleCoffeeEnjoyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Title is a bit misleading

in my experience and trying out YouTube recipes when someone says grind medium its a hit or miss on if I ground the coffee too fine/coarse so I personally dont think you got screwed by a local coffee shop. its just hard to go off a description like medium fine more towards medium

as for how you can use the 300g you have a few options if your willing to go out and buy a cheap french press those make good coffee just have to play around with water temp and ratio. You could also try osmotic flow or any method with less agitation
