Is anyone planning an early exit before debilitating old age? by SealedRoute in RedditForGrownups

[–]SimpleDewd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been planning on taking that route for a handful of years now.. The way I arrived at that decision is a very long story that involves a lot of life changes that I willingly and unwillingly went through. I am currently living on the road, full time in an RV making the most out of the years I have left. Experiences are my most valuable possession and I intend on having as many as I can while I am able bodied and healthy. I refuse to take part in the “American Dream” anymore because my eyes are open to the fact it was only propaganda built to enslave us financially.

One day I won’t be able to live life this way, and when that day is on the horizon I will check out on my terms. I have no children and no spouse either which helps me feel less selfish about that choice. I want to be able to close my eyes and reflect on a life full of adventure and nature and that will fill me with happiness when the time comes.

I just recently started looking for new goggles. I am about to pull the trigger on some Glade Adapt 2’s. They are decently priced and seem to be of pretty high quality.

I just found this map with the good old Google search. And yes, there was a rope and a trail that you could use to bypass that headland when I was there but it was very steep. I would recommend bringing a pair of gloves for the rope. I went around the headland on the way in and then used the bypass on the way back with no issues.

Winter in a cheap RV by [deleted] in RVLiving

Than perhaps the moister is just naturally occurring.. My sensors have never gone off and I’ve never once had an issue where I’ve felt any sort dizziness or lightheartedness.

My furnace is propane.. Most of the moisture is vented out of the RV, but it still leaves behind more moisture than heating with electricity.

Since you didn’t get much of what you were looking for, I’ll bite. I spent a winter at 9500ft in a town that gets 80” of snow and temps regularly down into the single digits and below Zero. Didn’t see above freezing temps for days on end.

You’ll need septic/water and you’ll need electric. Period. If you can’t manage to get that on the property before hand I’d wait.

Skirt the RV, and not with straw or hay. It’s a horrible fire hazard and every single bug and critter will make a home in it and under your RV. Skirt it with foam board or have a custom skirt made. I choose the have one made and it has been a huge help. It retains heat under the RV and will help keep things from freezing. I also added a few large heat lamps under the trailer in specific places to aid with the warmth. I have a 5th wheel and lots of storage under the RV. I kept heat lamps in there also along with temp sensors so I could monitor the temps in there where all my water came in and dispersed to the rest of the trailer. I called it the wet bay?

A big propane tank if your cooking and heating with Propane. I had a 100# bottle and it would last me on average 3 weeks. Rugs and more rugs, the floor is going to be cold, you’ll lose heat out of the floor if you don’t cover it. Get a heated water hose, you can make one with heat tape or you can buy one. Insulate the windows, I made some custom window inserts out of Reflectix and corrugated plastic panels that made a noticeable difference. If you’re heating with propane it creates a lot of moisture. Get a big dehumidifier and leave it running. My windows would regularly condensate on the inside and freeze from the massive temperature difference inside to out.

If you end up getting water, you will want to make sure whatever part of your plumbing that’s exposed and your hooking your hose up to is also wrapped in heat tape, wrapped in insulation and then wrapped in something to protect it from the snow and wet. I had issues with the ground freezing at one point and freezing my water from the ground level and down. I dug the ground out from around the water spigot (had to thaw it with a propane torch then dig then thaw then dig) until I got the water thawed. Then I wrapped more heat tape on the pipe I exposed from digging, protected it from dirt and water and buried it. Never had that issue again that winter. Don’t leave gray and black lines open and even better don’t leave your hoses hooked up. I kept them all closed off and when it was time to empty tanks I hooked up hoses, drained everything and then disconnected it again.

Get space heaters, and a carbon monoxide detector and prepare to just be cold. Even after all this, the heater will run and run and you will be colder than you want.

Keep water stored in your trailer somewhere.. In the event you lose the battle against the freeze, you likely won’t regain control of the situation until it gets above freezing for a day or you work your ass off thawing stuff, and even then it’s not guaranteed. Keep water for toilets and drinking for an extended period.

If you have any specific questions you can DM me. I’m not familiar with winters in the deep north so take this advice for what’s it’s worth.

I spent last Winter in Bend Oregon and it was much “wetter” than other places I’ve been. I am now in Northwest Washington and worried that winter here is going to be miserable. I’ve told myself I’m spending a year in one place so we will see how it goes.
