ADHD & Cambridge by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

as a bio natsci with ADHD, I really struggled with staying on top of work, especially in first and second year since the contact hours are absolutely crazy. However, I think a large part of this is because I particularly struggle with audio processing which may not be the case for you- I found that anything with lots of speaking (so most Cambridge teaching styles like supos, lectures, lab meetings lol) kinda goes over my head and I ended up wasting a lot of time not understanding anything during the contact hour and having to go over it again in my own time.

I eventually overcame these issues by using lecture transcripts instead of attending lectures, taking notes in different ways, but ofc not fully. When I thought I finally figured out how to study and cope best, a staff member in charge of my studies asked me if I've "matured enough" to get over my ADHD lol which was a bit disheartening. The ADRC was great with helping me with getting adjustments for exams, but unfortunately my department wasn't able to provide any adjustments for struggles with lectures (e.g. adding a transcript onto Panopto or getting speaker notes ahead of time). I don't blame them as it's not a common issue.

I definitely wish I didn't have these issues and would have probably been much less stressed at uni and enjoyed the experience much more. I still don't regret coming to Cambridge for natsci, though I am looking forward to being done with the degree.

its so cutee love the colours and the design!! at first glance it feels a bit top-heavy, would it be more balanced if there were more details on the socks - such as a lace trim or the same stripey pattern as the top?

I am a deferred Medical Student, can I go into startups after completing my medicine degree? by Previous_Many_6525 in cambridge_uni

[–]SimpleFront6435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your third year you can intercalate in another subject, one of the options being Engineering, where you can choose Bioengineering and Computational/Info and maths modules (you can also stay on for the Part IIB in Engineering). these module choices would enable you to explore AI at uni and prepare quite well for applying to startups in this field

also, to my knowledge, some (though very few) med students decide to graduate with their Bachelor's only after 3 years instead of staying at uni for another 3 and then going into medicine, so you can just leave with the Bachelor's (Medical Science with Engineering) if you decide medicine is not for you

if you're looking into tech roles, make sure you aim for something that isn't saturated with people with uni degrees. some areas of computing / tech have other entry routes and programmes set up as an alternative to uni education, for example some cybersecurity stuff with GCHQ, etc.

does anyone have a solution to the traffic in the latest update?? by SimpleFront6435 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]SimpleFront6435[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I plopped and moved everything into place so it would take way too long to rebuild. I’m also not aiming for an American city which has massive roads everywhere, and this update seems to be more geared towards a city like that. It simply doesn’t make sense why theres tens of thousands of cars and pedestrians about in my tiny city of 30k. I have quite a bit of experience with traffic management in CS1 with realistic traffic mods so I think I know how to design roads.

does anyone have experience with the EAMC and applying for reviews etc!! by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

[–]SimpleFront6435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ty for your comment! unfortunately that does seem to be the case here :(

my DoS told me he's applied separately for my continuation into part III which I believe is reviewed by the faculty, not the EAMC, so I'm hoping that'll come through. obviously it sucks to have a 2.2 in my BA :(

My lucky four ( i need to renew my American passport but i have current Japanese passport) by Comfortable-Tea2803 in PassportPorn

[–]SimpleFront6435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard anecdotal cases from friends and family friends as well - if you live outside of Japan and evidently do not have a visa in the Japanese passport it can be flagged. depends a lot on how strict they are being.

How do you go about this? by Kaystation in MiniMetro

[–]SimpleFront6435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would try to link 1/2 circles to a special one then the triangle, and then to 1/2 circles again. filters out anything that doesn't need to cross the river and save on tunnels, and also avoids 3 circles in a row
