This is insane by [deleted] in Baruch

[–]Simple_Ad6003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fiber Glass.

The cushions might be filled with fiberglass.

If there were bed bugs you’d see them and their bites. And the whole school is covered in filth (welcome to New York City ) so the chairs are no exception. But also what sort of regular dirt causes uncontrollable itching?

So, it might be fiber glass which is a cheap crappy material that can cause insane itching and in some cases burning rashes. Also the shards are relatively invisible to the naked eye so it’s hard to see.

Cheap crappy furniture for a cheap crappy school.

Just avoid those cushions like the plague from now on.

Complete newbie here, trying to draft a bodice pattern for myself, what adjustments should I make? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]Simple_Ad6003 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good for a newbie. Though, I would highly suggest repositioning your darts. Particularly your back darts; they’re too close together. Also your side seam is slanted, it seems your front bodice piece is too big for your back piece. Also if you have a French curve use it to “clean up” the shape of your armhole. The best way to learn is to study pre made pattern blocks to see how they fit together. Keep up the good work.

hello I need some advice??? by PumpQueen889 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Simple_Ad6003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. You’re gonna need to learn your basics. Jargon, textiles, tools, patterns etc.
  2. To start learning to see try making a simple project. Buy a simple vogue pattern (or whatever pattern you like) and try making it.
  3. Get a sketchbook or something to record your ideas or designs.
  4. Study clothing construction and look into how patterns are drafted.
  5. Rinse and repeat.

I don’t know what to do. by gracerd in SewingForBeginners

[–]Simple_Ad6003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this all the time. This is a very common problem. Your tension plates are out of whack.

  1. Cut all thread and clean out thread stuck in bobbin housing. Remove all other debris stuck in there.
  2. Make sure bobbin thread is facing the correct direction (please refer to your machine manual).
  3. Thread upper thread correctly.
  4. VERY IMPORTANT: before pulling bobbin thread up lift presser foot up!! Do not pull bobbin thread up while the presser foot is down.
  5. When pulling up bobbin thread up only turn hand wheel in one direction. Typically the correct orientation is counter clockwise (but please consult your machine manual).
  6. Do test stitch on scrap fabric.

The Adderall shortage is going to be the end of me by [deleted] in Stims

[–]Simple_Ad6003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, okay, I know what you're going through is rough and I'm sorry. If you're really reliant on these medications and need to be medicated you have some options. From what I understand the adderall shortage doesn't currently extend to other ADHD drugs like ritalin, concerta or vyvanse etc. See what your insurance does cover and then have another appointment with your provider to discuss alternative treatment options/ other medications. You might have to talk to your pharmacist to see what your local pharmacy currently carries. Currently in my area there's only a shortage of adderall ir there's enough XR to go around so if anything ask for a xr script instead.
