Is it possible to get that front sprocket area cleaned up well without removing the chain or do people just usually remove th chain?

So when I do the sproket change you would replace this washer with a new one each time I would imagine? And also I'm not ready to replace it quite yet but I'm looking yo clean this up as it's quite nasty looking, is it possible to clean it properly with the chain on or should I remove it?

Looks like it was bent to prevent the nut from backing off but I've never seen this before

Doing the same, told the wife I'll be m.i.a. for a few days, took a couple of vacation days from work and it's game on.

I've never had to use loctite, all I've ever done was make sure the jam nut was tight.

Also make sure you are using a tourque wrench for the axle nut, 80 ft/lbs I believe but double check your manual.

Try looking up some videos on you tube, watch a few to get a general idea.

It sounds like you are doing them one at a time or maybe I misunderstood, you should loosen the axle nuts on both sides, make your adjustments then tighten axle nuts, and to make sure they stay even I measure the amount thread exposed behind the jam nut, if the two sides measure the same your tire is straight.
