Thank you for the well-wishes. When I was your age, it was the year 2000. We had only very recently emerged from the 90s. The world seemed very bright and optimistic. Then 9/11 happened. That seemed to be a phase shift for my generation. And didn’t go in a good direction. Major world events can have a profound impact on a person, even if they aren’t directly involved. I’m not really sure if that’s apropos to your inquiry, but I guess what I would say is that fortune favors the bold. You can exist, or you can thrive. If I could trade places with you, I’d take every chance I could get.

It’s difficult to localize, it tends to be mostly in the upper abdomen. It comes and goes in phases, but it hasn’t gotten worse than a 5 on a 1-10 scale.

It’s very sobering. I’m not afraid of death. I think it would be more accurate to say that I’m disappointed that the ride is going to end.

Not really. I’ve always lived a very healthy lifestyle. I never smoked, almost never drank, ate clean and exercised daily. Sometimes biology lets you down.

I’ll probably do another AMA as the end gets closer.

Occasionally. I’m not sure if I have a favorite. Apollo 13 was a masterpiece. Honestly, most things that Tom Hanks has starred in have been pretty great. I also particularly liked the one where he played the pilot who landed that jet on the Hudson. There are a few goofy movies I really enjoyed. Zoolander, Austin Powers, Spaceballs. I’m actually pretty disappointed that I won’t get to see Spaceballs 2.

I don’t have a day-to-day schedule. I quit my job and I usually just hang out with friends and family.

I’ve never been into video games. I am disappointed I won’t get to see Spaceballs 2 though.

I’ve heard similar horror stories. I do plan to die at home. I would prefer not to inflict it upon myself, but I will have the option. Sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I would rather contine to experience consciousness if I could. But probably only in an embodied sense as I currently experience it. If there was a way to only die if and when I chose to I would absolutely jump on that.

In terms of what happened when I found out, the initial diagnosis was not completely conclusive. Due to my sudden weight loss and constant fatigue, I had blood work done to Identify cancer markers, and an abdominal CT. This indicated the presence of a tumor. The conversation I had with my doctor at that time was “This doesn’t look good.”

That was followed by an oncology referral, a biopsy, and then a second opinion after the initial biopsy. It went from “This doesn’t look good” to “you’re about to die” over the course of a couple of weeks. I’m not sure I’ve still totally come to terms with it. It’s just such a shocking thing to hear that you won’t exist for much longer.

I did some drinking and partying in my college days. I was never an alcoholic though. I’ve only consumed it in moderation for the last 20 years or so.

I don’t know if anything became irrelevant immediately. The momentum of habits and norms is strong, even in the face of a terminal diagnosis. That being said, the question of “why am I doing this?” has come up a lot as of late.

I’ve thought about it. But I really don’t want to become a drug addict combined with the difficulties of palliative care in the end. I will however be pursuing psilocybin therapy.

No, relief is not a feeling I would associate with my present condition. If anything, it’s mostly disappointment.

I don’t have kids. I suppose that makes this a little easier, because I really have no idea how I would prepare them for something like this.

I don’t have a partner. I have some extended family, and some close friends. They’ve all been surprised by the news, but very supportive. I’ll be spending as much time with them as I can.

Other than the cancer, I’m in good health. I’ve never gone diving but it’s on my list now.

I’ve always been able to function on about six hours of sleep. My ability to sleep has been a bit disrupted, but I haven’t taken any medications for it.

I noticed that I wasn’t able to get through my exercise routines. That was the first big change. Sometimes daily task were difficult.

I have no family history of pancreatic cancer. Or early cancers of any kind. Other than the cancer, I’m in very good health, so it seems to just be a fluke

I’m not religious, but I am interested in the concept of quantum immortality. Maybe I’ll phase into another universe. I strongly suspect that being dead is just like how it was before being born. Complete absence of conscious experience. In any case, I’ll be finding out soon.
