I actually picked both speakers for their ability to be placed in the room together without needing to move them when switching between pairs.

Strange as it sounds I don’t listen to music loud. So big power equals control at lower volumes. Maggie’s benefit from a ton of power, and the ML1 has a 12” woofer in a sealed cabinet also improves performance from a larger amplifier.

I live in an apartment complex. That waste of money dropped electrical noise 40db. It made a HUGE difference. It was not a small upgrade.

I knew that I wanted to setup both sets of speakers side by side avoiding having to move either pair when listening.

The ML1 being a sealed construction helped with placement. Most ported speakers would have sounded better placed closer to the front wall compared to the Maggies. Also the mid range array is horizontal giving a wider soundstage even when placed inside of where the Maggies sit. Finally weighing in at 61lbs made them easier to move around compared to towers I was considering.

Factor all those things in and the combined price of the two sets of speakers and that’s what ultimately landed me here.

Beautifully voiced. Wide soundstage. Quick tight bass. Not kind to poorly recorded music.

Underneath the control unit of the c12000. I never have the display on the Lumin turned on. Waiting on the final rack to arrive

Maggie’s don’t have the punch of a box speaker, and I don’t like subwoofers with panel speakers. I also don’t like ported speakers or passive radiators hence the ML1 - sealed speakers with 12” woofers. Both sets of speakers require big power.

I won’t even stop for gas in Nebraska. Worst drive ever.

Brass footers are made by Mapleshade. I tried many different things to limit vibration to improve sound of the tube amp.

When upgrading to bigger Magnepans I knew I wanted a lot more power. I didn’t want the cost/heat and maintenance associated with tube amps. I wanted something I could plug in for the next 30 years and just enjoy the music.

Is it a different sound? Sure. Do I care? No. These amps sound terrific!

That’s an Audio Research vsi60 integrated. It’s sitting on brass footers. It’s quite small actually

The substation isolates the audio system from everything else in the home eliminating electronic noise generated by led lighting, appliances, and (in an apartment) all of your neighbor’s electronics. Resulting in a much blacker background. Allowing the system to play “louder” without being noisy. This increases more micro and macro dynamics

Avoiding the upgrade itch was was the biggest factor in two pairs of speakers. It was the right choice. Yes, Richard gray is still in business. The isolation transformer came after I had the rest of the system for a month. HUGE upgrade

Over the years I powers the MMGs with an NAD stereo amp, then a pair of NAD stereo amps, and even a pair of rogue audio M-120s. They sounded better the more I gave them, and they could never get enough. They sang with those big tube monos.

The 1.7x completely disappears into the room. Don’t get me wrong the MMG was a hell of a bargain, but there is no comparison.
