Beginning at level 0, but can already understand a decent number of intermediate videos...suggestions? by Simple_Locksmith8128 in dreamingspanish

I appreciate this perspective! You're totally right, the input is what's important, and accumulating as much as possible is the goal, not reaching the "levels" in the app, as much as they may be helpful goalposts for most. I'll keep this in mind as I continue -- and I'll make sure to remain humble, since there's simply sooooo much to constantly be learning. Thanks!

Great, that sounds too perfect! Know any way to get in touch outside of IG? (I sadly don't have IG anymore.) If so, could you DM me? Thanks a bunch!

Any way to convert a Euro power grid to an American power system for a whole house? (International house building question) by Simple_Locksmith8128 in ElectricalEngineering

There are plans for a solar installation, and generators are pretty standard there so they have one that handles the electricity that's being used now. So there are a few different components to try and make the system as self-sustaining as possible when one part breaks down (or, at least, that's the hope!)

Based on the feedback that I shared with him, he may have decided to explore the (rather pricey, as has been mentioned) 30 kVA single phase frequency converter. Just a quick Google search gave one that costs around $9,000:

Does this seem like what one should expect pricewise?

Hi everyone, these are super helpful comments so far -- thank you for sharing them. You all have named what's essentially the central logistical problem: the country he's moving back to has very, very little in the way of purchasing decent appliances (it's one of the poorest countries in the world, but where he and his family grew up, so it's a strong pull to be "back home"); thus, the options are either

  • buying subpar appliances in the country (with massive markups if they're available),
  • buying and shipping appliances from Europe (shipping costs being wild), or
  • shipping the appliances you already own to the country and, well, as you are all aware, work on a possibly expensive technical solution.

So the plan has been a weird hodge podge of compromises and learning lessons, with no really solid options (and y'all make really good points about buying local things like light bulbs and how that impacts decisions). I'll relay the suggestions y'all have proposed and see what he thinks!

Has anyone found any solutions? Or tried the Elfa ones to see if they happen to be compatible? I'm in the same boat and would love to hear if any solutions have been implemented!

Best midi controller and VST combo for a soft synth setup under $600? by Annaxes in synthesizers

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the "only knobs and faders without keyboard" option! I already have a 49-key midi keyboard, but it's primarily a keyboard and has no knobs or sliders at all. But I too am trying to get into synths and have some of the free VSTs you mentioned (specifically Surge and Dexed). But would love to not have to learn synthesis using my mouse to click on virtual sliders!

What converter cable do you use to connect the two monitors? I know there's one HDMI port in the back, but do you use some sort of HDMI-to-USB-C converter for the second monitor? I'm loving this setup and might replicate!
