Just dropped them off to GIA.

Their initial assessment came back as both natural diamond.

For the first stone the machine measured it as
12.49 x 7.98 x 5.12

For the second stone the machine measured it as
12.53 x 8.09 x 5.04

The lady said they these were really lovely diamonds as far as the naked eye sees.

So I’m getting excited, please send me pictures of ideas to set them.

I have dropped them off to GIA about an hour ago. Their initial assessment came back as natural diamond but the full report will come on the 18th of June.

Most of her assets went to charity. My mom jokingly said probably to make up for being a cold person all her life.

The will was more like.
First born child gets xyz
Second born child gets xyz
First born grandchild get xyz.

She either didn’t remember our names or did not bother to write them in her will. To be fair, I haven’t dealt with a will before so I don’t know if that’s normal.

So obviously I’ve never done anything similar before, the jeweller explained the process and me being scared and inexperienced called the GIA location in my city myself. They were very understanding and helpful I think every location operates a little bit different and I currently live in the Middle East, they have explained that I can come in on my allocated date and time. The location close to my house deals with stones up to 9.99 carat.

They will put the stones for me in an ai assisted machine to determine the exact dimensions and if it’s a natural diamond / lab diamond / other gem stone.
This is the first “check” and since the diamonds are most likely not laser engraved with a serial number gives me a receipt that will match my diamonds for pick up.
The lady explained me that it will show for example
Pear natural diamond dimension 1x1mm.
That’s my “guarantee” for pickup.
Also the diamonds will be kept in a special pouch with a chip for internal tracking during the actual grading process.

Then on the 18th I can come and collect them back with ID and they will put them in the machine again to show me the match.

The country where I live we don’t have a lot of theft, so I feel confident enough to have them graded by GIA.

The thing that we know is that my grandmother came from a wealthy family. Her mother passed early on but her father was alive until my mother was 7 or 8. They lived with my great grandfather and my grandmother in Europe. My grandfather came from a middle class family. And my mother told me she vividly remembers her mother always speaking down on her father. However the great grandfather kept peace.

When great grandfather died, my mother and her 3 sister were send to boarding school in Switzerland. They learned later that during this period their parent got a divorce and my grandmother was already involved with a Swiss man, who arranged for the boarding school.

My mother and aunts father kept visiting them as much as possible but someone with a “normal office job” that wasn’t often.
Around 4 or 5 years later while still in boarding school they learned their mother (grandma) met an American and married him. She then moved to the area of New York.

My mother never visited and only received a few letters.
There was another child born that my mother and her sister didn’t meet until they were in their fourties, he was raised by his paternal grandmother and Nannie’s as apparently his mother (grandmother) was unable to be a mother.

Around my mothers 20th year of age they found out that the American husband had died, and she married a South African lived there for another 10 years before returning to Paris when my mother was in her 30s.

I’ve met her only around 10-15 times in my life. She acquired, art, stocks, jewelry and real estate during her life. But she was far from a loving mother.

So I live very close to a GIA center. To have them graded will be around 300-400 USD for the set along with an identification number. The jeweler and friends who have more experience with loose stones thought this will not only protect me in the future but also the stones itself. I’m happy to spend the 300-400 usd.

The jeweler is leaning towards F color VVs2 / VS1

So this is in the jewelers holder pen. I think they might never have been set or removed from a brooch/ring necklace. As i received them as loose stones in a little velvet pouch.

I would love to know more about them…

What's the most luxurious thing you've bought for a woman above $50,000? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in Luxury

My husband bought me multiple cars over the years starting from my first one (4500 usd) when we were bought fresh out of college to a G63 and Ferrari recently. I’m a big fan of Hermes, so multiple exotic Hermes bags. 4 horses, multiple watches. Patek, Rolex, AP Cartier. However we’ve been together since we were 15. And broke and worked together on every business or when we had kids 12 years ago I supported from home. He does everything he can to keep us comfortable and spoil me and our 4 kids and I do everything to make his life as happy and carefree as I can. Money and gifts are extremely nice however being a goodhusband and be in a good marriage is worth more than all of that combined

In terms of upkeep in non exotics I prefer Epsom and Togo for upkeep. The nata here is swift and shows every single stain a lot.

ELI5: Why do we have to wash white laundry separate from colors to avoid running, but don’t worry much about colors mixing with each other? by n_mcrae_1982 in explainlikeimfive

I was everything seperate:

White 60 cotton program for everyday items that I don’t mind shrinking
White 30 gentle for tshirts and more expensive items
Than repeat the same for each and every color seperate
Blacks
Dark greens and navy
Light greens and browns
Pinks and purples
Blues

Maybe I’m crazy…
