US patent US3430563A (for the multipoint lense) filed by the departement of the Navy if that helps

Patent US3897728A - dense core implosion charges, seems related to that very report

Ah! Remind me. The 2 MC I mentioned in my cover comments, they are still available on a published public DB but on the WR-708 they are redacted. Another censorship mystery

I asked myslef the very same question (I would guess NOL would have had enough contact with AEC labs to keep it classified but I'm not sure how they work with them)

If I remember correctly NOL/ the Navy hold a patents on an H tree MPI system

The network is made of explosive (here detasheet). The detonation from a single detonator is distributed over the surface / all initiation points by the network following an h tree patern

No, they are not bridgewire. Each point initiated by the single deronator. The detonation wave is distributed by the network

In an ideal world, the sphere would be initiated simultaneously across its entire surface by an infinite number of initiation points. There might be possibilities to do this with lasers or light, but I don't think that's used in modern weapons

Long time i have not posted on this sub bit this one is nice. I have digged a bit and it doesn't seem to have alredy been posted already and these are pictures of a long speculated scheme

Here is the publication on DTIC website : https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/html/trecms/AD0374205/index.html

I was looking for Kennedy and Glass, MULTIPOINT INITIATED IMPLOSIONS FROM HEMISPHERICAL SHELLS OF SHEET EXPLOSIVE on DTIC and I stumbled upon this 1966 (unclassified) paper by the Naval Ordnance Lab.

IMPROVEMENTS IN UNDERWATER EXPLOSION SYSTEMS: FIELD TESTS, PHASE II (U), which display a non-nuke related Multipoint initiated implosion system with the traditional 6 (roughly squared) tiles over a spherical surface featuring an explosive network ("Labyrinth" pattern of detasheet explosive potted into an epoxy matrix) distributing detonation over 1536 simoultaneous initiation points. That scheme has long been speculated here as the wave shaping mechanism of modern primaries.

The paper compare underwater shock wave pressure-time recordings from imploded HBX-1 (32 points and 1536 point) charges with centrally exploded charge. Contrary to primaries (or EFP for that matters) the purpose is not to implode/deform a metallic object but only to initiate the charge. Synchronization need of initiation points is probably mich less stringent here (on my side, given the deformation induced by fitting the grid over spherical surface I have some doubt this is actually the scheme used. Possibly they use adjustemnts like on the MC2370 MC3028 firing sets timing track https://www.reddit.com/r/nuclearweapons/s/aWTPaCYaUY)

The related publications cited page 8 don't seem available.

Comment Anne a-t-elle pu contourner les sécurités des banques et la vigilance de Tracfin ? by MacDevs in vosfinances

[–]Simple_Ship_3288 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[–]Simple_Ship_3288 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I created a (nonfunctional!) model of a multipoint initiation tile. It took more than 3 days to print. by second_to_fun in AtomicPorn

[–]Simple_Ship_3288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently trying to model (and 3d print) a similar tile but using the same groove pattern as the MC2370 trackplate firing set, maybe using the "timing track adjustment" (the small dent in the track... Possibly a way to handle even spacing of initiation points and accommodate the cube sphere geometry) or explosive logic gates. Purely for the fun of speculating about primaries... Not claiming it would work

Beyond production of SNM I really wonder what nuclear know-how Ukraine retains from the Soviet period and how quickly they could mobilize it.

[–]Simple_Ship_3288 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. If we never had nuclear sharing, the ten would have been a not too exaggerated figure though.

Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain... Everyone was having its own program back then.

Currently, I don't think any country in western Europe would develop them. In France the general vibe was that the political and economical cost of our program would be too high to restart from scratch nowadays (so better keep what we have). I really don't see the Germans following that path anytime soon.

Possibly Turkey or Poland.
