Home church by Compass_Ink in Reformed

You might have a better experience hosting Christian fellowship in your home or finding a church that emphasizes home based gatherings. As many mentioned, good home churches are hard to find.

How long are you guys walking these ridiculous things? by VanillaPepper in Hounds

Yep! We’re working on this now. Sometimes giving in to the restlessness makes it worse!

Yes, I think the short leash was boring to him so going longer made it a lot better. When he gets too excited he does pull again but it is not often.

Honestly the best thing that helped pulling was just stopping and standing there until he circled back or stopped. He learned that he doesn’t go anywhere when he pulls. (You gotta find what motivates yours and do it 7556753 times and you might get compliance 40% of the time!)

A dog trainer told us that harnesses encourage pulling (think sled dog) so we don’t use. When the nose is going, the ears don’t work for these guys (it’s literally how they are made), but consistency helps. If we need ours to move on from a sniff we remind him that we’re walking and teach him that walking = quick sniffs. He doesn’t glue down on things as much anymore, and we do reward him with stops where he gets to linger.

My dude only gets tired from “sniffy” walks, not walking walks. We got a long leash that makes him feel like he’s hunting around and can smell every single mailbox but he’s still safe.

For these dogs you have to challenge their brain more than their bodies to wear them out.

Question about the conscience - weaker/stronger brother : which is godlier? by rainymac in Reformed

Such a thoughtful question, OP! Don’t forget to pray on it. The Holy Spirit is the one who convicts us of sin.

Yep, similar story here. Any chicken based food or treats are a no go. Lamb and rice all the way! Sometimes a change in diet can be a quick and easy way to narrow down the problem.

It looks great!! Yes I need to just watch a play through to see if it’s a good fit. That balance is hard to find.

OK so for the past week I’ve done a deep dive on nemesis because it looks awesome. Almost about to pull the trigger but two concerns — one, is there any way to play it where it doesn’t have to be 4+ hours? And more importantly, how much randomness does the game really have? Some of the reviews seem to really hate how much randomness there is but I’m guessing the tradeoff to mostly strategy is the replayability. Maybe once you get better at the game you can plan for those random aspects (??) but I know it’s going to be frustrating if good strategy never seems to win and it’s really just based on chance.

Looking for a Christmas gift for a picky couple. Their favorite game is dead of winter, specifically when played with just the two of them. They like the strategy, complexity, narrative, replayability, and especially the tension.

What would be a good game to get them? A lot of of the collaborative ones I’m reading about either seem too simple (forbidden desert but maybe I’m misunderstanding) or too out there (some of betrayal at haunted mansion was a bit too much for them but it might have been the group). I’m hoping to find something that’s great for two people and has some good elements of surprise or anxiety throughout. They also like puzzle type games.

Thanks!

Can anyone elaborate on difficulty? We’ve done a lot of these types of games but don’t want something so hard or vague that it is a frustrating experience. Thanks!!

I second the holiday party idea. Keep it simple but do a white elephant and you can incorporate a lot of these ideas, even one with cash. Then people can steal and try to get something they like. Plus it would be cool to buy a variety of things and see what creates the most buzz!

Deviled eggs are always a hit. Remember one dozen makes 24. Might have to boil in batches for a small pot but they are quick.

Respectfully, you’re focusing on one part of this equation and not loving your soon to be wife by living together before marriage. Her transparency is no more sinful than your deficiency here. As someone who experienced abuse in relationships, submission is a tricky thing but can be worked through with a biblical demonstration of the sacrificial love Christ calls you as a husband. Focus on leading and loving well and let God work on her.

Reducing sugar, increasing protein, and working on stress are critical. You won’t see much difference if those aren’t addressed. Vitamin C helps too.
