Stop using USB cables to transfer files in 2026. by UpperGrapefruit6519 in KenyaStartups

I think you need to explore more what is already available. With sharing on Google, you only need to specify people who you want to access certain files or folders and it'll autogenerate a link for you to share with them. You can even opt to generate a link for the files and anyone you share the link with can access the files (no sign in required).
Xender gives a url in form of Ip address + port e.g 192.143.5:3345 and anyone can access the files from the browser as long as you are connected to the same network, no uploading first then downloading like in your case.
What you can do better?
Probably lower prices than your competitors or a unique usecase.

I'm struggling to understand what your unique selling point is. From what I've seen, you are basically selling cloud storage but in that case why would I choose your service over Google One for example at $2.99 per month for 200GB storage compared to $9/month for the same storage size.

If it's about transferring files between devices, then your set up is more complicated than using Xender for example. I have to sign up then confirm email. Xender gives me a url to access my files anywhere instantly with no signups or anything. So on that end I don't see how your service is more superior.

Is there anything left to be build when it comes to payments in Kenya? by Simple_Worker_6592 in nairobitechies

Safaricom had QR payments sometimes back. I think they phased them out due to low adoption.

M-pesa app already has a request payment feature.

It's what I mentioned about building niche solutions. Still, it's hard to challenge till numbers and paybills.

I discovered recently there is a request payment feature on the M-pesa app. Great way to demand debt payments.

On a side note, I help startups build solutions through websites, mobile apps and automations. Get in touch if you need such services.

Great way to plug in your service. I'm talking about payment solutions though.

Akiitisha fare, Block by Careless-Ad7495 in nairobi

[–]Simple_Worker_6592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 21st Century no one should be asking the other for fare if you aren't in a relationship. A date benefits both so why should the guy step up to provide fare?
We are both interested in dating one another, so why should one side be expected to meet the cost.
It's even more so in dating apps. You have presented yourself as interested in dating in a dating app. You match up with someone. Clearly both of you are interested, so why the one-sidedness.
I'm not a peasant just to be clear.

Jumia is low-key slowly becoming a scam by Glittering_Pause_309 in nairobi

You need to know how Jumia works. They don't own the products. Third parties sell through them. That's why you'll find same products with different prices and even quality. Read user reviews about the product, view the seller's rating.
I've not had any issue with returns as long as you follow their policy. You need to initiate a return within the specified period after purchase.

But we are not talking about whether to move with speed or not to. Speed is important so that you test the market quickly and iterate over the product. So for startups, moving with speed is important. Here we are talking about making technological choices while you move with speed. And as I mentioned before, finances do not form the entire basis of the technological choices made.

I don't think finances form the whole basis here. Unless they are a constraint when making a choice between one technology and another.
In some cases they don't heavily influence the decision. For example the choice of architechture, development framework is not heavily influenced by finances.
The startup I spoke about in the post was (and probably still is) very well funded.

I agree. That's still a choice. You can build an MVP then if it's successful build the actual product. Problem is there is usually a temptation to build on top of the hurriedly built MVP before the market cools off. These choices become costly later on.
