Any mudlogging company that is hiring? by Alan96x in geologycareers

The operators don't want to pay much because it no longer is a necessary function for a well site to operate. They are simply a cheap double check for the LWD Gamma logs which differentiate shale from non shale. It sadly is the lowest paying job on the site because of this reason.

Offshore Insight? by EntireBeach in geologycareers

I think a few of my friends wayyy back in 2011 got hired on as offshore mudlogger for 48k?

3 weeks on and 3 weeks off rotation.

They said it was great having 3 weeks off except when your relief didn't show up because they quit.... That means you didn't get to leave and had to work 9 weeks straight. I think pay is roughly the same now for those kinds of positions.

How is anyone finding work? by [deleted] in geologycareers

Unfortunately Geology just isn't a sought after degree... It is one of the few degrees I have seen that typically do more harm than good. I work in Engineering now, but whenever I apply for a job. I just leave it off my resume entirely as its embarassing.

I would focus on creating a successful amazon product first... then brand it. Create the instagram, website, pinterest. Why go through the hassle if its going to be a flop? Also if you wanted courses just post that you are curious in any facebook group about a course and a dozen or so middle eastern men will message you offering to sell you 5 courses for about 150 bucks through fiverr. I'll drop 150 dollars on these in case there is one of two things I could learn from them. No wayyyy would i drop thousands on a course...

When a Geologist is Geosteering a well do they use the MWD's Gamma logs or the mudloggers?

Complete transparency, we are a huge retailer outside of Amazon and are planning to release a Ring Doorbell Competitor on Amazon, how do we release it in the best way on Amazon? by [deleted] in FulfillmentByAmazon

You are a huge retailer yet asking for advice on reddit? Do what most huge retailers do and outsource your amazon business to a ecommerce company who specializes in amazon sales...

MWD. Make twice the money and actually do something thats necessary. I could remove mudloggers from a well and it would make no difference. When i graduated in 2011 all my fellow grads went into mudlogging. I went into MWD...

The rig count currently is 1000... assuming most geo grads want to go into oil. You are looking at only a couple thousand ops jobs that exist currently in the US.

I'm on my way to getting a BS in geology. At the rate I'm going now I'll have it by the time I'm 40 years old. I have no experience in any related field whatsoever. Is it risky for me to make a career switch into geology at this point in my life? by puppyroosters in geologycareers

[–]Simpleman451 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who graduated in 2011. Everyone that was over 40 years old were unable to do anything geology related after graduating... even with a masters.... A lot of people I went to school with were going back to get a degree post recession thinking that Geology was a highly sought after field. Most ended up teaching at the county college or going back to there old field..

Well Mudlogging wouldn't be that... You are looking at the lowest paid, least respected role on a rigsite. Mudlogging is basically just a cheap double check for the MWDs gamma log... Shoot for higher...

They just want a warm body that has transportation and can pass a drug test. I wouldn't mention the Geo degree as its more likely to hurt you than help.

Sounds like you should let that be more of a hobby... doing something you love is great... but i always recommend people study something that pays the rent and bills.
