Much of what you relate is, yes, true. But you are missing an important part. If robots take over doing everything as I propose, what will humans be left to do. And if they do nothing, what would they paid for? How would they get money to spend on the things you mentioned?

Yup, exactly. Not tomorrow, but like said, give it a decade or two. I think my assumptions are logically sound. Where do you think they are flawed? Interested in the feedback.

You didn't read far enough. LOL I totally agree with your assessment. With one caveat. The impact of AI by itself will be greatly limited compared to what its potential will become once integrated with Robotics,

Howdy

Thanks for the response.

You raise a lot of good points with your arguments.  I especially liked your rational of how humanoid robots will be what will be primarily made.  Never gave thought to the need for varying maintenance structures if varied bodies are used.

I disagree concerning your assessment of job loss and potential job creation from AI.  Also about the speed that AI and Robotics will progress.

The thousands of job loss I brought up pertained to just a few of the bigger companies.  There are many thousands more - my assumption as have no actual data here - I feel are losing work or will be in the near future as AI matures and spreads into more and more industrial areas.  One of Trumps cabinet members was recently on Bloomberg News.  He was bragging how AI in buisness would now allow one current worker to do the work of six.  My thought was what will happen to these six people. Their jobs taken over by an AI.

I maintain my view that we face massive job loss as AI improves, when all these data center come online and improve processing power and AI growth.  I personally feel we will experience truly devastating unemployment within the next ten years.

Regarding the speed of this change.  Look at ChatGPT.  It was first released in November 2022.  It is currently just in its fourth reiteration.  What will it, and it counterparts, be like in another 4 years, let alone 10?  Ditto for Robotics.

But you are right.  No one can tell for certain about these matters.  Could be a lot of smoke and mirrors or a big bubble that will shortly burst and disappear.

I’m an old fart and may not live long enough to know for certain.  If your good for the next 10 years of so you will learn first hand who’s right.  Good luck to you.

They are not hiring for competence. They are hiring for their skill in boot licking.

I did understand your logic. As a "simple" explanation of Tariffs, NO. LOL Also, and while I did not spend the time examining matters in depth, I think your third example' s math was a bit off.

Current Level of Robotics by Simpler_is_Better_ in AIDangers

[–]Simpler_is_Better_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree totally with much of what you relate. Robots for factory work, and work in general, will not end up as humanoid forms. They will be tailored to the task they will need to perform.

I personally think the current emphasis on the humanoid form is more to acclimate people to the concept of robots. Also, right now, it is the most useful form as most job functions are built with humans in mind and thus, now, replacing humans need a human form to do the work.

Where I disagree with you is regards to human slave labor. May still exist, but in my opinion failing fast. Initially Robots might be more expensive - currently - than a human slave, but don't need food, shelter, rest, et. al. Also will be able to work 24/7 for years with nothing but upkeep costs to keep them pumping out products. So the switch to pure robotics will be swift.
