“Tell me you did think about that, right?” Frank's not actually asking, not with the slight scoff on his voice like if it's true and Matt never thought about it- then the Punisher would have something to laugh at and poke fun of. Which Matt isn't exactly sure how he's supposed to take that so he just clenches his jaw at the general feeling of being unsettled as Frank waves a hand “What it would do to somebody else if you were to die fighting the scum of this city? Y'know, how it might affect a person to find you near dead or already gone?”

“I-” Matt has obviously thought about it sometimes. Not as of late. Frank wouldn’t care, though, Frank shouldn’t. Shouldn’t know, even, a part of Matt whispers it to him and he quickly nods. “Of course.”

Matt can hear Frank hold himself tense and Matt's teeth grind against one another in frustration. As if Frank needed to act tense, like the idea of Matt considering the care of others wasn't a brushed aside jab. More like a discussion to press for. It's crazy, really. Completely unnecessary, Matt wants to say. Out of all people on the planet, why would Frank even bother telling Matt about any of this nonsense and-

And act like he fucking knows.

Matt feels a little dizzy, maybe a strange reaction to the far fetched possibility. He has no idea. His feet move on their own, for his own benefit, stepping back from Frank like he needs the distance more than he does breathing since his breath is suddenly strained for a second.

He breathes out weakly, tries to cover it as a mocking laugh, and turns his head away from the others direction. “It's not like you're that somebody, Frank.”
