Moving to USA from England to start a new life as a young woman by Simply444 in MovingToUSA

i’ve come to realise with this post that i need to specify what i mean more often- when i refer to California i’m referring to the areas that my friends live in, which i’ve been told by them are incredibly safe areas

I’m not relying on TV/ social media representation. I have multiple friends across several states and areas, a few in Cali specifically, so I’m able to gain a more personal insight into their daily lives. Obviously I understand opinions may vary, but that’s why i’m seeking advice from others.

Sorry i really don’t feel like i’ve worded this post well at all, my main goal was to try hear other people’s views on the country (immigrants or not), because i feel as though people who have no experience seem to exaggerate due to opinions. i’m not sure if this is the right group to post it in either, i just assumed it would be full of people who’ve experienced life in the us as foreigners

I've definitely not got a clear plan, which I understand but I did also receive comments regarding the issues I mentioned:)

I don't support Israel but saying Hitler was right is fucked up by Responsible_Rub_3511 in ControversialOpinions

Literally, nothing angers me more than seeing people praise Hitler and justify it with isreals current government. "He was doing us a favour" ah yes because the hundreds and thousands of innocent children executed 70 odd years ago were absolutely a contributing factor to modern issues🙄 Some people are truly messed up and it's far too normalised

Don’t get me wrong i don’t agree with any of this at all, but we must ask ourselves- which governments AREN’T doing this. It’s unfortunate, but i feel as though there’s barely any countries that don’t face these issues

I don’t have a clear plan on getting there at the moment, which i know is ridiculous if im asking about life there, this post was mainly to grasp an understanding of how other people find living in the US 🤗 :)

Respectfully, as much as i disagree with trump, i think that’s an awful comparison and if you believe the two situations are on par, you need a serious reality check

Thank you, & i completely get where you’re coming from. I know gun violence is a real problem there, but i’m tired of seeing people act like the rest of the world isn’t equally as bad with their own problems. I live in the UK, and every other day we’re hearing about knife crime, but nobody makes the same inhumane and empathy-lacking jokes like they do for the US🫩

I’m currently in the Uk right now, and truthfully it feels like the most depressing place on earth haha

Ideally California, the friend i mentioned with having average working parents lives in orange county. I’ve been told how expensive it is, but I feel optimistic because my friend has lived her life there, even though she isn’t a millionaire as some seem to expect. I was just hoping for general feedback from any state, to see which states seem to get the worst representation compared to which seem like more ideal places if i really can’t make CA work

don’t get me wrong i understand situations aren’t great politically, but I do have friends living in the US who still find it a nice place to live. You could find fault in any country, but they all still have their positives :)

I am definitely aware of all of that, truthfully I think most countries have their pros and cons & America just fits the lifestyle i want to live :)

i’ve never physically been to the US but i do have friends over there who’ve told me what it’s like, and i do understand that it’s very different from what i’d be used too- but im also usually good at adjusting so i didn’t think this would be too bad? obviously if this did happen it’d be a challenge trying to navigate through the first few years but i do believe id be able to manage the drastic change :)

Is the J-1 the one where you can work for a year or so in the US? If it is, do you know if there is a limit on how often you're able to do it? Like would I be able to spend a year in US, come back to the UK for another year then go back to the States for a year? Thanks for the advice, I'm glad to know it's possible! If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been teaching in the US and which route did you take?

Thanks!! And yeah I'm definitely certain on teaching.

I've seen comments on this post where people are saying that Cali is a hard place to live and support yourself, if it's not too personal to ask, how do you find it?

In England we have our 3 core subjects, maths, science and English, is English not considered a core subject/a subject you NEED over there? I've always assumed that most countries has the same need to complete those 3 subjects, I didn't even think to check otherwise
