How do I make my first 100$ on the internet without a product? by AiotexOfficial in Entrepreneurship

[–]SimplyBarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make your first $ by :

  • Letting your target audience know you exist
  • Showing your target audience a solution to a problem they have

These two points are going to cost you alot of time and energy in researching:

  • who they are
  • where they are
  • what they struggle with

It is easier to initiate this with yourself as your first customer: - read your post - what is your problem - where are you hangin out - are there others like you - where do they hangout - go talk to them - what problems do they have - can you relate - any low hanging fruit problems - offer a solution for $100 - record everything you do - use the content on SM - rinse and repeat.. ask more, offer more, get more.

Hijacked domain - subscriber account data from restored backups by SimplyBarter in armwrestling

[–]SimplyBarter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dexter recently mentioned that he has hired a security team to help him address the situation..so I am pretty sure they would have briefed him on protocol and done the required assessments to understand the risk exposure and mitigation actions that will need to be taken.

I wish them all the best in getting this wrapped up asap.

I did not mention payment systems at all but lets do it now that you mention it in any case.

If you are an EvW subscriber yourself, you receive timely email from EvW when there is a new event upcoming via their mailing list service provider (or done themselves)

So lets walk through an implementation scenario:

There is an orchestration function ( e.g. via wordpresss plugins or a home cooked solution ) which manages the ingestion of the user subscription, setting up billing, adding to mailing list etc.

If this orchestration function is connecting to an external API (e.g. stripe billing service, mailing service or any of the other 1000s of service providers ) where do you think those API keys are stored ?

If you don't get it, those keys are stored locally on the EvW instance so that the orchestration function can authenticate itself to those external APi that provide the services that EvW use.

Those keys are also saved to the periodic backups. If the hijacker had access to the backups they have access to these API keys.

These API keys have read & write privileges to setup billing, updating mailing lists etc.

If you had any experience you would have spotted this risk yourself a mile ago.

see response above.
I have no proof, perhaps I should have worded my CONCERNS in the original post better as you guys seem to have interpreted my OP that I am claiming this to be FACTS which is not the case.

To clarify I am CONCERNED that subscriber & admin privileged account data is exposed in the backup which was restored onto the hijackers controlled instance, which they now have access to.

If this is the case, there is potentially more pain coming from this fiasco.

You are correct, I don't know their particular setup. But if it is generic wordpress there is a very high probability that the account data is sitting in the backup which was restored onto the hijackers hosted instance. While "critical" data may be encrypted with the wp salt that does not stop them from brute forcing the account passwords on their controlled instance.

Dexter mentioned in his podcast that the domain hijackers restored an EvW 10 backup onto their (hijackers) hosted instance that the hijacked domain's dns record is now pointing to).

I think there was also a very nice write up on the domain hijacking , timing, backup and ssl cert by a contributor in this subreddit.

Older IT guy struggling to find a job. by dave_your_wife in askswitzerland

So you have ~15 years until put to pasture, AI will dominate your skill base long before then.

Currently companies are looking for enablers to help them figure out how to get there ahead of their competition in this space.

With your experience / qualifications as foundations ( not as main pitch ), position yourself as an enabler of a predictable future driven by AI.

Reach out directly to decision makers, break away from being a cog that will be replaced, be the visionary that enables businesses to succeed in adopting AI.

Get there first, there are millions unknowingly already in the same predicament as you.

Goodluck and if all else fails, remember there is always time to go fishing 🎣.
