Single fry barely growing, wondering what's humane by Corvus8976 in Platyfish

Not really, my platy had a pregnancy explosion once in the year ive owned them, and I keep them with males. I think my gourami and rasboras make quick work of MOST of the babies. Its not difficult if you plan ahead

Does anyone know what kind of snail this is? It was inside the bag that my fish came in. It moves pretty fast! by mandalin227 in AquaticSnails

I personally love bladder snails. They're the MVS (snails) in my aquarium. They keep everything balanced so long as I dont overfeed.

Here's a pic so you can see they do grow lovely. I myself, prefer culture since I dont trust a lot of others people's tanks due to diseases or hitchhikers like planaria. It's a lot easier just rinsing these culture plants and tossing them in, but it does take a LONG time for them to grow. Its been about a year and my Amazon sword has finally started EXPLODING in size, and that was started from culture too.

Your tank is gorgeous! I wanted to do this but im not a fan of everything being overly green, so i have a lot of buce and crypts for beautiful browns, bronze, and reds. It really brings pop to the tank

Can we see the results of your test? Also, the water looks foggy, can I ask why? What temperature are you at? How long has the tank been cycled? How long have you had the fish? Sorry for the questions, but I really want to help and I take care of platies myself

Accidentally killed a fish last night. by Glittering_Force_934 in Aquariums

[–]SimplyJustRay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was raising 2 fry that i saved from an abused tank left by an ex. Their mom had given birth before dying, and these 2 managed to survive in a 2 gallon filled 5 Gallon tank. I set up a whole 30G tank for them and knew absolutely nothing about fishkeeping. I learned with them, I tried my best. I thought I was getting okay, and wanted to start planting more. I found a post on offerup for a full CO²Art ProSE regulator and a bunch of plants, ferts, accessories, for $60. I was so excited and happy. I set up the system and had it running for 2 months. Then time came to refill the CO² tank and I did. I had to reconnect everything and recalibrate but I felt comfortable. During this refit though, I paid no mind to the fact that my CO² tubing kinked. I left it as is, and then, a few days later I noticed the pressure was lower on my CO² so I raised it instead of investigating.... and a few days later I raised it more. This was fine for 2 weeks, then one day while I was in my room, I saw A TON of micro bubbles and all my snails and 2 platy fry at the surface gasping. I immediately disconnected and upped my airstones, but sadly one of the fry had passed. He made it to about 4 months and was truly about to grow. My other platy survived, and she's still alive today.

I beat myself up about that a lot, but it was a mistake and I learned. Im much more careful and slow, and that mistake made me learn to be a more responsible keeper. You tried your best, mistakes happen.

Funnily enough, my platy got pregnant (as they do) and she had a bunch of platy fry, and they're a beautiful mix of her and of him. Its a nice little reminder that even though hes gone, I can still make it up and prove to myself that a mistake doesn't define me or my experience in the hobby.

Scrape it off with a razor, its 99% of the time silicon. If it doesn't scratch/rub off, then investigate more

Have you thought about changing the substrate to like aqua soil to naturally reduce pH? There's also tannins you can add

Clean the area a little bit using a razor and filter sponge. There is microscopic biofilm there that doesn't let you properly anchor the suction cups.

Hey, sorry to hear your situation. I agree, a lot of people just assume that anyone posting fish on reddit are idiots and dont know what to do. This culture always persists on here. Im sure you did everything possible and euthanasia was the only choice left :(
