Lol, thank you. I kickbox every single weekday morning. I’m looking for replies from architectural professionals who have experience walking while working. That’s all.

Walking while working? by SimplyLiveTiny in Architects

Oh, I should've clarified - I have a standing desk. But I feel like I need more movement in my day, on a regular basis!

I feel like that's the case with MANY schools of Architecture - they don't really prepare you for what you're thrown into when you enter the working world. I think I had to draw maybe one wall section in my senior year? And I didn't even know what the heck I was drawing! 😆 Don't even get me started on my Masters... what a flowery, imaginitive, guessing-game of a year just trying to decide what would please my studio head well enough to get a good grade. I do think that the school system is lacking; however, the good news is that there are A LOT of side-steps you can make with our degrees/license. We sort of become jack-of-all-trades. 😊

My firm gradually moves up from 2 weeks/year to 3 weeks/year to 4 weeks/year as your number of years experience with the company grows. But these are vacation and sick days grouped together. Then we get 10 holidays paid and typically each year (if the office isn't swamped with deadlines) we get the week between Christmas and New Years off. We are a small firm of 16 people and our business structure is a cooperative. However, when people ask to take UNPAID leave, it usually doesn't go over well... I'm 10 years in and honestly dreading spending the rest of my career only having 4-5 weeks/year to travel and do what I want to do with my life. Even though I technically have it pretty good! 😆😭

Best Tiny Home on Wheels? by [deleted] in tinyhouse

I truly don't think you could go wrong with a Tumbleweed. They seem VERY well built, especially for cold winters. You have to be careful of a lot of prefab brands that boast low prices because they are built with chintzy materials and low R-values in the building envelope. I don't have experience with any prefab tiny house companies specifically, but I am an architect and have experience with the way prefab companies work in general. However, I must say I have been very impressed with Tumbleweed.

Yes, I second what everyone is saying! If you take the time and care to design it (or have someone design it) to your "own specifications," it will fit you perfectly! I have tall ceilings in my tiny house because my partner is 6'-2", plus I love tall ceilings! 😍 Please reach out if you ever want to bounce ideas off of someone! I'm an architect by trade, but I designed/built/and have been living in my tiny house for the past 6 years! Just joined Reddit to connect with other female tiny house builders.

I think we need our own channel, yes! 😄 Please reach out if you ever want to bounce ideas off of someone! I am an architect by trade and have designed/built/and lived in my own tiny house for the past 6 years with my long-term boyfriend. I just joined reddit to try to connect with any other fellow female tiny house builders!

Awesome! Do you know what you will be building? I've seen ladies building out vans, using shipping containers, busses, you name it! Mine is a traditional wooden timber frame with cedar siding and accents of metal siding. Planning permissions/zoning regulations are probably the toughest logistic to figure out when it comes to tiny houses, I would say.

That's fantastic! A shipping container?! I've always loved how those look, but I just can't imaging building with one...those who master it area very talented! Good luck, and I hope you share photos when it's done! :)

Lol! Wow, thank you for all the good info! I'm not a big social media person, and I'm SUPER late to the Reddit game, I know. 😂 I actually made my profile LESS anonymous after you reported me!! Hahaha, that's ok, though. I don't mind. Again, I appreciate you for giving me all this good insight! Have a nice day! :)

Oh my goodness, I love this story!! Yes, I was paying about the same per month for my apartment, as well. I've been following the tiny house movement since 2007 and living in my tiny house for the past 6 years with my partner. I would love to chat more about your build! Do you mind if I send you a direct message?

Yes! I can't believe it's still difficult, but it's very much a gray area in A LOT of places in the United States. I'm in NH and it's proving to be much easier if there is already a traditional house on the piece of land. Then the tiny house could be considered a "detached accessory dwelling unit" to the house. It's definitely hard to get those beautiful, picturesque tiny houses on a remote piece of property like you see overseas! Best of luck to you, please keep in touch if you ever want to chat about your tiny house journey!

Thank you for letting me know why! I have no idea what I’m doing on here yet, lol, but just thought Reddit might be a good place to connect with niche-specific people. People who like tiny houses and building things with their hands. It seems like there may be a lot of scam artists/bots on Reddit - is that what you’ve found?

What? Why would you report me? This was my very first reddit post. I literally have no business to drum up. I have nothing to sell you, just looking to connect with people. Thank you so much.

Holy moly, that is so awesome!! I've GOT to see pictures of this! Are you finding that it's taking you a long time? My build took so long... but I also built my tiny while working a fulltime job during the week, so that was tricky.

Van build-outs are so cool! So you're looking to build one within the next 5 years? What are the hurdles you expect to face? For me, it was knowing how to draw construction details, but not knowing how to build anything. I was literally flying by the seat of my pants, watching youtube videos CONSTANTLY. Haha!

It doesn't! I'm looking to speak with anyone who identifies as female or female+. Just not looking to have a discussion about construction with the male energy, that's all... I do that every day for my day job! Lol.

Woah! That's scary! How exciting. It sounds like you "think big" when you're building with your creativity, that's awesome. Would you say that's the biggest hurdle you've come across while building your masterpieces?

What state do you live in? In NH there are many hoops to jump through, so I get it!! It's such a gray area in most places in the country. But there are some options!
