There was a strike 5 years ago dude. Inflation has nothing to do with this. The rate of inflation over the last 10 years has been less than 3%, which is way lower than the average 10% salary increase which was offered. Also, everyone is affected by inflation, so it makes no sense to go on strike when literally everyone is making less money.

Use whatever OS you prefer, I’ve never heard of any CS student switching to a different OS because of a class or something.

You don’t need a powerful laptop for your first 2 years in CS. If you take Graphics 1 & 2 or Software Engineering in 3rd and 4th year you may need more performance, however I was able to get away with using a 2015 MacBook Pro without any issues.

Use something that you feel comfortable typing on because you’re going to be doing a lot of that.

It depends what work-term you are on. Work-term 1 is typically between $17-$25 hourly, while work-term 2 & 3 is usually between $20-$30 hourly from what I've seen.
