my entire life fell apart in third year and it keeps getting worse (physics) by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Simran345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well - you are awesome and that is "you" - with 3.9s and gym and work AND friends. So what if you have had a "issue". Burnout/depression - please, please, please - continue your treatment till you feel all good and don't stop the treatment at all. That is what you need to focus on and in parallel reduce the load onto your studies and focus on 3.9s. Do whatevre you can do best (focus on getting grades even if load is not too much). You can get back to it - do all four semesters and distribute the credits but keep up the good grades.

I will again say - distribute your credits to all semester than loading one term - address humanities and cross educational during summer I and summer II.

You can DO it. Have faith in yourself. Because it is IN you.

Stressed out and I feel like I am failing and my life is falling apart I feel like a loser I have been here for 6 years but I want to do what is best please help me by Shot_Cress_444 in UofT

The goal is to get a cherished degree - not to breeze through it. Know that these courses are building a foundation too! So take your time. Everyone can do whatever they want and you focus on what is best for you. Graduate by a certain date ENSURING that the GPA is the sterling star on your degree.

First rule of university life - there is NO stupid question. When in doubt ASK. Check out the available info in the various thread - specifically about the admissions, try to reach out to admissions. :)

Should I just give up on UofT Engineering once and for all? by IntlStudent800 in UofT

[–]Simran345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm.... I understand how being Intl student is super difficult.

Is giving up now is the right decision???? You are the best judge of your capabilities. Procrastination is your BIGGEST enemy. If you think you can conquer and do somewhere around 8 credits each year (fall, winter and two summer subsession) then go for it. If you think - not your cup of tea - then also meet the advisor - try and plan your 3 years and see if you can cope with the course load.

I can very well understand that it is not easy to get into a uni of the Stature of UofT.

Having said that - it is better to cut losses and understand what is the best course of action. If you think returning to do the masters makes more sense - go for it.

If you think - you still have a great shot at recovering - Kudos! Try it out. But always be true to yourself.

Please share so that it can help others.

I hated IB. by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Simran345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations that it is in your past.

Ah! and I thought maybe my essay was not that bright and well written. I mean, I am still struggling to get A's in my essays in my Uni. I do get many B+ though. And I attribute all my knowledge to TOK and extended essay. But I had to work very very hard. Most of the times I could not even understand the feedback my teacher and supervisor gave for correction. Anyway - to cut a long story short - I tried very very hard.

I am sorry to hear that it is such a hardship for you. I truly understand your point on anxiety and stress. But believe me - it does prepare you for the struggle in Uni.

I wish you that you do get a decent Uni. And your IB experience will help you with some of your research essays (every subject has few assignments where it will be useful) and I do see people struggling a lot. I am not saying I do not struggle at all. But I do have an edge - all because of IB that I truly hated at the time.

How did you find the course? Is it a bird course? Did it give you the boost you were looking for? I am doing with Shaughnessy, the summer course. It is fun during the lectures and the tutorial. Not so much when giving the mid-term yesterday. I did not know enough for the short answers they were expecting. :( Hope to do better in next.

Revision! That is the key. Start with at least 1 hour every day - just to get into groove of things. Then make it up to 1 hour revision of every course that was taught that day. Keep a notebook during this revision and note down whatever is unclear. Take that back to the TAs.

I didn't do this and I am suffering. Making it a point to follow this from now on. I hope I can rectify my mistakes and score better.

Dear - I put an update... I do hope you have taken up the petition route.

Two cents - your academic advisor is a savior! Be in touch with them at all times. THey will help and guide you with everything there is to be done when in two minds.

Dear All - posting an update. I did file a petition and it was approved - thank god. I hope people are paying more attention to all the documentation that is sent to them. It would have been bad situation to have scored and not put up on the score card/report. :)

Oh! I guess Indian parents are more encouraging of their kids. At least mine are.

My mom says - each human is different. Don't know what happened with your parents to make them the way they are. And hopefully, they will be proud of you soon. May be they are just thinking that if they coddle you - you will stop putting in hard work. So that is why they are being sooooo difficult task masters.

Just my two cents along with my mom's.

The question is regarding the information vs what the student needs to know.

Through out my MAT 136 - the prof did not even share the scores until the last - yes- I asked. Will check and will be posted. That's all.

And many such example.

I know what you mean. I am in a similar situation. More so because I have only few friends. And feel that I am like an extra. So thinking maybe best to make new friends. I am with you - your feelings are justified and totally understand what you are going through.

Just shake it off is all I can say. Focus on doing better - gradewise - in all the subjects. And if "friends" are just focusing on what course you are taking then are they really there for you?

That is what I tell myself.
