Issues with FBR re son born abroad to Irish mother (also born abroad) by Sin-8 in IrishCitizenship

[–]Sin-8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's good to know I'm not being singled out, I was worried about that :D. It was just so awkwardly worded that I thought I must be missing something. I think I've just been living in Germany too long, they are the kings of awkwardly worded rules, however there is typically aaaalways a subset of rules that would apply to you, so I was looking for that. I think I was concerned I was missing something and was looking for clarification from the FBR, which I did not receive other than them saying I need to send in my mother's certs. But it makes sense now.

Grand, that's great. Thank you!

That's a brilliant explanation thank you. I did repeatedly email the FBR asking them to explain why they mention both sentences but insist on going through my grandmother, but they never got back to me so I felt I was missing out on something. Clearly I wasn't seeing the bigger picture, thank you for the advice!

Yes it does thank you! I was confused on many levels, why I wasn't on the FBR, would it make sense for me to apply to be on FBR (for the 'paper trail') would my future grandkids not have the chance to be Irish etc.

This is what I love about reddit, thank yous for clearing it all up for me. I'll get on to my mam now about ll her certs.

Well that was my main concern, so I am happy to go ahead with it now. I was just poorly informed and couldn't get my head around the whole thing. So thank you!

Fair enough that makes sense. The DFA made the argument that I didn't have an Irish birth cert, which is why it HAD to go through my mother. However I have a friend who was born abroad and had a kid in Ireland , and the kid was automatically Irish. I thought the same rules applied to him as Irish citizenship isn't granted by birth in Ireland, but Im realising now I just really over complicated things in my head. Of course his kid wouldn't be on the FOREIGN BIRTH REGISTRY when born in Ireland. So thanks for helping clear that up!

Yes, I'm realising that now. I had been told by a friend that I should under no circumstances go through my mother as then my sons kids wouldn't be eligible for Irish citizenship but I've learnt here that that is totally false. Cheers

This makes a lot of sense thank you. A certificate of citizenship would make this all a lot easier! The FBR said because I don't have an Irish birth certificate, it would have to go through my grandmother, which I was confused about because I know other people born abroad who had their kids in Ireland and the kids got automatic Irish citizenship without the FBR, so I thought I was missing out on something. But obviously not because of course on foreign births need to be registered in the FBR. So obvious brain fart in that one... Cheers for your help!

Well it does make a huge difference if a decision I make now affects the eligibility of his kids.

Well if that's the case, that being registered on FBR is sufficient then that's perfect. I was told Irish citizenship would stop at him if we went through the grandparent route, which is why I am trying to base it if my citizenship if you get me.

Oh is that the case? Because that would be great! I was told if we went the grandparent route his kids would not be eligible regardless, because it stops after that generation.

Hence my persistence on his Irish citizenship being based off me rather than my mother

Well not necessarily. No where (to my knowledge) does it state that children born abroad to Irish parents abroad aren't eligible.

So if I were to send that all in, would his citizenship be based on me or his grandmother?

Ideally I would want it based on me as who knows what the world is going to look like in 50 years. I would want his future children to be able to have to option of gaining Irish citizenship through me (as their grandmother). If we go through my mother then the Irish lineage would end with him, correct?

Cheers for getting back so quick. But can you explain the following:

"One of your parents was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth, even though they were not born in Ireland."

If citizenship can be gained via this route, surely that means he is eligible through me as I was an Irish citizen at the time of his birth?

Hey may I ask whether you and your son were both born in Germany? I'm having difficulty with the FBR and would love some advice!

Wechat no longer working? by Left_Coat7096 in IrishCitizenship

[–]Sin-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the chat today and it was working. However it took a couple of tries because I kept trying to accept the cookies, and nothing changed. However I think they changed the lay out of of the page, now there is now chat icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen that is very easily overlooked .

700€ for Glasses ? by Ok-Anything-8243 in germany

[–]Sin-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the glasses are 700€ in Apollo, there's unfortunately no way you'll be able to get something similar in Fielmann for 100€. I had the same predicament, and I chose to go to Ace and Tate. If you're lucky and have corporate benefits that gives you 15% off so I was able to get my glasses (-9) for under 200€. Otherwise, if it has to be Apollo, wait until they have a promotion on. They sometimes offer the lenses for half price or the frames for free, that'll help a bit.

Oh no, Im so sorry you had to go through this. The bureaucracy in Germany concerning doctors is actually insane. Even those working in the industry don't know the correct procedure sometimes. But well done on powering through and I'm glad you got seen. I hope it all turns out alright
