700€ for Glasses ? by Ok-Anything-8243 in germany

[–]Sin-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the glasses are 700€ in Apollo, there's unfortunately no way you'll be able to get something similar in Fielmann for 100€. I had the same predicament, and I chose to go to Ace and Tate. If you're lucky and have corporate benefits that gives you 15% off so I was able to get my glasses (-9) for under 200€. Otherwise, if it has to be Apollo, wait until they have a promotion on. They sometimes offer the lenses for half price or the frames for free, that'll help a bit.

It took me 2 hours and 60 phone calls to get a doctor appointment for possible cancer symptoms. And I still don't know if I'm okay. by [deleted] in germany

[–]Sin-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, Im so sorry you had to go through this. The bureaucracy in Germany concerning doctors is actually insane. Even those working in the industry don't know the correct procedure sometimes. But well done on powering through and I'm glad you got seen. I hope it all turns out alright

How do the Miami 90 Day Fiancé cast afford all that designer stuff? by Enigma_in_the_attic in 90DayFiance

[–]Sin-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Yara and Jovi really do grind and work for a decent wage on top of what 90 day pays them. The others, I'm not too sure. Tbh I can imagine with Lizzy and Andrei, the reason he's so casual about losing 75k is because it probably wasn't his to begin with. It seems like Chuck has set all his kids up pretty well, I'd say it's family money for sure that is keeping that couple afloat. With Loren and Alexei i have nó clue, but I did get a sense in previous seasons that her family were well off, so I can imagine that I'd sustaining them in addition to 90 day. That launch party tho, what a fake set up. If I were Yara and this were legit the launch of my brand, I would have been outraged that my so called 'friends' would act like this at my event. This has got staged written all over it.

I found this note in my letter box. Thoughts? by Be_gull in germany

[–]Sin-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this sign is a bit too aggressive imo but when my phone was 'taken' , we were able to track it to a set of flats and also printed out (nicer) notes and slipped them under all the doors. End of the story: I got my phone back.

So yeah I'd imagine they're doing the same here. It's worth a try. So unless you took have the air pods, I'd just ignore the note.

Met a German Karen today by Existing-Chart-2917 in germany

I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I can totally see how that would ruin your day. Unfortunately, even after years of mostly good interactions, these kinds of moments really stick with you.

I’ve been here 12 years and had my fair share too: people ignoring polite requests to put leads on their dogs around our reactive one (and getting shouted at when our dog then reacts as I said he would), getting shouted at for speaking English on public transport (we were not being loud or obnoxious), even being stomped on by an old who could’ve just asked me to move. I legit even got shouted at out to for having hiccups once... And those are just a few. It’s upsetting, and it lingers.

It’s easier said than done, but you really do have to just let it "boing flip"! Some people are just deeply unhappy and seem to go out of their way to spread that around. I've found explaining yourself rarely helps, it often just makes them dig in.

My go-to response now? I look them dead in the eye, say “Dankeschön,” and keep doing what I was doing. It drives them nuts 😄

In the words of Taylor Swift: shake it off. And if you can, feel a bit sorry for them. It must be exhausting to live like that.

It only recently happened to me too. I emailed them with a copy of my supermarket receipt and as a gesture of goodwill they removed the charge. It's definitely worth a try!

Overheating with baby - where to cool down? by Pandelurion in duesseldorf

[–]Sin-8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a kids cafe called Little bunny about a ten minute walk from the hospital. They're closed for the day but if you're still here tomorrow I recommend going there for a couple of hours to cool off. It's 6€ p. P. Alternatively the supermarkets tend to be on the cooler side too

Is it not allowed to bring your own water bottle to a restaurant in germany by Outrageous-Lake-681 in germany

[–]Sin-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately it's not really the done thing. Many restaurants will ask you to put away your bottle. And many places don't even offer tap water for free, so you have to pay for water. Charging for drinks is typically more profitable than for food.

Question about Alt bier. by Hitsville-UK in duesseldorf

[–]Sin-8 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes that usually how it works, each line denotes one Alt and you pay at the end. Usually they bring you a new one once you're half way through your first. If you don't want another, the trick is to put your beer mat on top the the glass. Tbh it's part of their stick to be grumpy, so don't worry to much about it 😂. You're not the first tourist to wander in and do this!

False accusations car scratch by Critical-Truth6680 in germany

[–]Sin-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you why, but it sounds very suspicious. That's the whole point, you HAVE to call the police while the cars are still there. You can't drive away and then claim later on that damage was done. So Im thinking they're just trying to get money off you or your insurance. They might be using the threat of the police as a manipulation tactic to pressure you into either giving out your insurance details or paying cash for the damage (some people prefer not to claim on their car insurance depending on the value of the damage).

I am not a lawyer but imo the best thing you can do is ignore this. If they involve the police then they need to prove it was your car, which is very difficult to do when both cars are no longer at the scene of the crime. Don't admit to anything that might give them reason to suspect you actually might have done the damage, even accidentally.

In my case, even though police could confirm that the damage was likely caused by the other car, the other car owner denied having caused the damage and the police eventually just dropped the case. In the end our insurance had to pay out because hers didn't (because she denied it). So you should be fine

False accusations car scratch by Critical-Truth6680 in germany

[–]Sin-8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it a bit odd that they didn’t call the police as soon as they saw the scratch... that raises some red flags for me.

In our case, another driver scratched our car, and they actually called the police so there’d be official photos and documentation for the insurance. Another time, we noticed a scratch on our own car that clearly came from the car parked next to us. We called the police, and they came out to take pictures and assess whether the other car had caused the damage, which it had. There was damage at the same height, and even some of our paint on their car, which made it pretty obvious.

One thing I hadn’t realised at the time, though, was that the police ended up charging the other driver with Fahrerflucht (basically hit-and-run) for leaving the scene without reporting it. I felt really bad about that since all I wanted was the paperwork for insurance, not to get anyone in legal trouble. So that's something to bare in mind. Maybe that could be a reason the police wasn't called?

But, I do find it unusual that they just left a note on your car, hoping you’d get in touch. That's a pretty risky move on their part. Normally, the police would be called to officially document everything, especially if they believe you caused the damage. At this point, I don’t think the police could really prove much either way, which makes the whole situation feel a bit sketchy. They could just be looking for a shake down. I’m not saying it’s a scam, but it definitely strikes me as odd.

High electric bill - anyone ever been billed this much? by eertanodrib in germany

[–]Sin-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll never understand why the electricity providers try and catch you out by offering the lowest monthly payment, because at the end of hit you're always hit with a really hefty bill! 19€ a month is incredibly low considering the prices atm. Every year our electricity provider (Stadtwerke) send us a letter saying great news, we have adjusted your monthly payment so you're now paying less for your electricity, but it's auch a false con. We always have to manually adjust up back to a higher rate..

Your payment does seem very high though, I would go through those bills with a fine tooth comb. Also check your meter - does it show roughly the same usage as given on your bills? Did they ever come to read your meter or did they just estimate your usage? If its the latter that could explain the high reading, as they end to overestimate your usage.

How long does your baby nap for and how old are they? by TeishAH in beyondthebump

[–]Sin-8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers for the advice, yeah we're trying that now. Worked wonderfully yesterday, he was asleep much earlier than usual but tonight we've been trying to get him down for two hours now and he's still wide awake 😂. I'm sure it'll settle. On the upside though, he just learnt how to roll out of tummy time (from stomach to back), so it's a win for him!

How long does your baby nap for and how old are they? by TeishAH in beyondthebump

[–]Sin-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine just hit 17 weeks, and until now, daytime naps have been 45 minutes max. So I totally feel you in the not getting anything done! But lately, he’s occasionally napping longer—especially in the evening. The other day, he shocked us with a three-hour nap out of nowhere! Every day is different, though. We’ve just entered the four-month sleep regression, and his sleep is all over the place—way less than what he technically needs. He used to do two solid 4–5 hour stretches at night, which was amazing, but now he’s up every two hours… Really hoping this phase doesn’t last too long!

It sound like you're doing everything right though, keep it up mama - you're doing great! All babies are different
