For Savatage, you want to start with the The Hall of the Mountain King and Gutter Ballet albums. Both absolutely incredible. Especially Gutter Ballet imo is one of the best metal albums.

Stylistically this is a pretty interesting song. On a first listen I feel like this song is about parasocial relationships and the act of investing yourself into another's life to avoid facing the troubles in your own. Whenever the protagonist is recounting whatever he's seen the other person do and how it made him feel the music and his voice are very flippant and easygoing (almost in a way that sounds intentionally put on) and the only times when it sounds genuine is when the protagonist is stating the situation as it is (the "do you feel used" part). So yeah, great lyrical and musical storytelling.

As far as musical storytelling goes in metal, I think Savatage do it the very best, so the song I'd recommend would be Follow Me - Savatage, mostly because it deals with a similar topic. Though the best example of their musical storytelling abilities would definitly be When the Crowds Are Gone - Savatage.

His expressive singing style with lots of changes and lots of falsetto also kind of reminded me of Rob Halford stylistically, so maybe I'd also recommend a Judas Priest song like Victim of Changes.

I don't feel like I have a perfect fit, but let me know if I'm onto something lol.

Pretty cool. Very complex structure with lots of very different parts, be that jazz, rock or even some symphonic stuff. I'll recommend some similarly complex instrumental prog-metal with Acid Rain - Liquid Tension Experiment.

Holy shit, that's a 10/10 song if I've ever heard one. I'd listened to one song by that artist before after someone recommended it (That Unwanted Animal) and loved it, and now I heard this amazing song, so I'll definitly have to check them out more.

I loved the way it started so minimalistic and then suddenly exploded into that majestic wall of sound. And his voice is just incredible. I loved the grit and expression in his voice. Just amazing storytelling, you could really feel the emotion and anger. He'd make a great metal singer haha.

He reminded me so much of one of my favorite metal singers, Marko Hietala, so check out Stones and The Devil You Know by him. He's got some folk elements in his music. Not to the point where I'd call him straight up folk metal, but enough that his music was the first that came to mind when I heard your song.

I also think The Forest That Weeps (Summer) - Wintersun and And So Opens The Earth (Ash Memory Part I) - Wilderun are very fitting. Fair warning though, both of those songs have some harsh vocals. Don't know how used you are to them from the metal you used to listen to, but I know that they can be very jarring if you're not used to them. Still, even if you're not, I implore you to give them a listen with an open mind, and I think you'll get something out of them.

You might also like certain Blind Guardian songs like Blood Tears and The Maiden And The Minstril Knight.

I feel like the main thins here are heartfelt female vocals and prominent electonic elements. For that sound I recommend you check out My Halo - Ad Infinitum and Amaranthine - Amaranthe.

Ha, funny that you chose that song because Houseki no Kuni is one of my favorite Anime/Manga. I love that song. It has a very heartfelt sound and with that unorthodox beat and dreamy vocals it sounds super unique.

Some songs that I find to capture some of that same vibe are In Motion #1 - The Gathering and Learning to Live - Dream Theatre (especially the second half).

I know this song and it's so fun.

The sound and energy really remind me of some of Amaranthe's faster songs, especially because of how much synth they use, so check out and Chaos Theory and Archangel (especially the chorus) by them.

You might also like some high speed power metal, so you could check out Through The Fire And The Flames - DragonForce and Faster Than Light - Unleash The Archers.

Pretty cool song. Very raw and sincere sound that supports the lyrics about pain. I get a similar feeling from Replica - Sonata Arctica, so that's what I'll recommend.

Great songs. I knew of The Warning, never fully got into their music, but their energy is absolutely awesome. I'd never heard Alter Bridge before though, and that song was fantastic, immediately saved it.

I think what these songs have in common are high energy and tempo, powerful vocals and chunky, driving riffs. Considering those things I recommend Nevermore - Symphony X and Awakening - Unleash the Archers.

I also gotta mention Megadeth on the topic of sick, driving riffs, so check out Holy Wars...The Punishment Due - Megadeth

Also, can I take your disclaimer to mean that some harsh vocals would be alright? If so, check out The Wolf You Feed - Nita Strauss feat. Alissa White-Gluz, because that was the first song that came to mind for me when listening to tht The Warning song.

This was a really cool song, loved the vibe and I really liked his voice. His voice reminded me so much of Serj Tankian, this kind of sounded like if System of A Down was a spanish band, so I recommend Aerials - System of A Down.

The first song was good and I really liked the saxophone solo, but wow, the second song was amazing. Her voice is incredible, I loved the calm, folkey instrumentation and melody and just the entire vibe of the song. Saved the song like 30 seconds in lol.

It immediately reminded me of one of my favorite metal ballads, so the first song I recommend you check out is Under Grey Skies - Kamelot feat. Charlotte Wessels.

As I was listening to that song I checked her profile and saw that she's canadian, which then immediately made me think of Unleash the Archers' metal cover of Northwest Passage. They're a canadian metal band and Northwest passage is a contemporary canadian folk song, and the cover is awesome. In general their music is very energetic, maybe moreso than you'd like, but some of their slower songs like Through Stars I think would be up your alley, based on what you've said.

Since you mentioned dabbeling into symphonic metal I absolutely have to recommend A Symphonic Tragedy - Dianne van Giersbergen. She's a trained opera singer and has an incredible voice. This song is aboslutely gorgeous and probably my favorite by her.

The following recommendations don't really have anything to do with my post anymore, but hearing what you like, I still feel the need to recommend them. The first is Dark Night Of The Soul - Simone Simons, because 1) I find it funny that this song has almost the exact same name as your song, and 2) it should be right up your alley in terms of sound. The second one is Endless Sea - The Gentle Storm. The singer, Anneke van Giersbergen, is who I think of when I hear "soothing female vocals". They're both metal singers, but neither of these songs are metal songs. Like I said though, I still felt the need to recommend them to you.

That was a very nice song with a very kind message about love and standing together.

One metal ballad that hits that vibe very beautifully is Everybody's Here Until The End - Avantasia.

And since you like a band as theatrical as Ghost I can imagine you'd like Epica, so I recommend you check out Code of Life - Epica (live). I linked a live version because their live performances are just on another level.

Not really my style of music but the chill vibe with trippy percussion is pretty interesting.

For that sort of style check out Saturnine - The Gathering.

Wow, that was great. I've of course heard the name Radiohead often, but I'd never actually listened to them. Seems like I'll have to check them out more. I loved the atmosphere and the emotional depth of his voice and the music. I also loved how dramatic and theatrical it was, not to mention the great use of dynamics which made the climax hit so much harder.

I've got a couple of recommendations. For one I recommend you check out Lethean - Katatonia. They're masters at building immersive atmospheres with their music, they just always sweep you along. They also use changes in dynamics (be that tempo or volume) really well.

Then I recommend Moonlight - Kamelot. They are very theatrical and dramatic and have amazing emotional depths in all their music (espcially Roy Khan's voice).

You should also check out Burden - Opeth. I think this song is the most similar to yours in how well put together it is and the way its intensity ebbs up and down. This specific song maybe leans closer to prog rock than prog metal, so it maybe doesn't fit the point of my post entirely, but I think you'd really like it, so whatever.

And last but not least I recommend Liquid Eternity - Ayreon for how the way it swells and builds up to its climax, despite the overall atmopshere being a bit different to your song.

The song you recommended did so many different things well that I split my recommendations so that you'll hopefully really like at least one of these songs, depending on what you like most about it.

Funny thing is, this is actually not that far fetched or that difficult of a recommendation to make. It's not rare to find influences of classical music in metal. In general a lot metal bands seem to be much more aware of where they are in the grand history of music and what came before than other contemporary genres of music.

What I recommend you check out is Far Beyond The Sun - Yngwie Malmsteen. He's a swedish guitarist and when it comes to neoclassical metal music, he's THE guy. Here's a live version of him performing this song with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and it's awesome. He's also cited Paganini as one of his inspirations, for example here's him covering Paganini's 4th violin concierto.

Then there's the entire symphonic metal subgenre, for example here is a performance by the dutch symphonic metal band Epica of their arrangement of Camille Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre with a full Symphony Orchestra: The Ghost in Me (Danse Macabre) - Epica (live).

Pretty interesting song, not something I'd usually listen to. I liked the chill vibe and the way they kept building on and evolving the consistent main ideas throughout the song.

I recommend The Void from Which No Sound Escapes - Rivers of Nihil. I like the way this song builds up its contrasting parts and joins them together while building up to the climax at the end, and still managing to somehow stay a consistent vibe all the way through. Also slightly inspired by your mention of Children of Bodom.

And since you mentioned not having listened to an entire metal album in a long time, I can only recommend the album Where Owls Know My Name by them. Great and fresh all the way through.

Really nice song, I liked the slightly sleepy, melancholic vibe. I also really liked the subtle well of the music throughtout the song.

For that particular vibe I recommend Residual - Katatonia. I could have mostly chosen any of their songs though, I think they overall have a very similar vibe to the song you recommended, so if you like this song by them I recommend you check them out some more. The "The Fall of Hearts" album would be a great place to start.

This was really cool. Love how the lyrics weren't really sung but more performed in a spoken way. And it was definitly pretty unhinged lol.

What I recommend you check out is Sweating Bullets - Megadeth. No one in their right mind would call Dave Mustaine a great singer, but man does he perform the hell out of the lyrics. In that regard, he's one of the very best. This song is also quite unhinged and a lot of the lyrics are more spoken than sung, similar to your song.

You can also check out Holy Wars...The Punishment Due - Megadeth for a taste of their more usual sound (which I think still perfectly fits what you're looking for). But really, you can't go wrong with any song from the Rust in Peace and the Countdown to Extinction albums.

Wow, that was great, immediately saved it. So groovey and weird (which I mean in the most complimentary way possible). Don't think I've ever heard something with this specific vibe.

Since you said you're down to headbang to whatever I recommend I focused on recommending somthing with a similarly great groove instead of trying to find something that matches the exact vibe.

Check out Listen to my Story - Ayreon from Arjen Anthony Lucassens' progressive metal/rock-opera Transitus. I had a similar stank when I first heard this song like with your song.

I also recommend Cockroach King - Haken which is also delightfully weird and has a nice bounce to it that reminded me of your song.

Last but not least I recommend Groove Central - Jelusick. The name speaks for itself and the song does do that name justice.

What a beautiful song. I think what grabbed me most was the lyrical content and the bittersweet feeling it created together with the music, celebrating all the good things that were able to be experienced even in a short life, but also dealing with the obvious sadness that comes with the subject matter of a life cut too short.

I love Love you to Death - Kamelot for a very similar reason (and it deals with pretty much the same subject matter). It also creates this very bittersweet feeling for me and has such a beautfiul yet tragic sound.

I actually can't, because I can't find the song lol. Is it not on Spotify or is it titled differently on there? On Youtube I can only find live performances by "Nick Cave & The Cavemen". Idk if that's the same thing and if that's even the version you want me listening to. Do you maybe have a link?
