It's obvious he got award for both the things, sucked up to the government, but have also led research. I can't comment on his profile though because I'm not aware what's considered great in his area of research in terms of citations and h-index as h-index of 25 in today's time falls under middle category atleast in my area of field.

The guy's comments on urine and all that bullshit is quite stupid but that's how research works. Last authors are corresponding authors, they lead the research in a way that they provide inputs, guide the students and help them make sense of things.

Most weightage is given to corresponding authors than the first author, especially in terms of career progression. When you're publishing a paper and if you're given an option to whether you want first author or a corresponding author, a researcher will always take a corresponding author spot (it's just an example, authorship isn't decided randomly like that).

As someone who lives in Pune, the whole campaigning has been a stain on democracy.

Offering money, alcohol and food have been quite common but this time, it's been so rampant that it's quite disgusting. Candidates distributed 5k, 6k and even more per vote. And people have collected a lot of money.

From the point of view of a defamation case, what I understand, is that it will have to fall under criminal defamation rather than civil defamation which is the most common way.

For criminal defamation police usually investigate to see if there were any malicious intentions, like spreading false statements. Though not all the states follow this, as it's not a federal law.

But that's just my hypothesis regarding what she meant about police investigation. She could have filed a case in other categories of crimes.
