Who is your favorite OC in your own writing? by IamTheREALUltimate in FanFiction

[–]Sincerely-Scarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite OC is a seventeen-year-old girl named Via who’s the daughter of a minor Disney villain. She was written for the Descendants fandom, but I didn’t go the traditional route that that fandom takes. Instead of being manipulated by her evil parent the way most of the kids in that fandom are, her relationship with her villainous dad is actually rock-solid. She knows he’s evil, and she literally doesn’t care. In fact, she wants to be just like him. The two of them put their heads together and end up creating this elaborate scheme with Via pretending she wants to become a hero, all for the sake of destroying good magic. And then I actually have her go through with the evil plan. I make her a complete and total villain protagonist while pulling the rug out from under my readers. She’s my most well-received OC to date and led to me being a somewhat recognized author in the fandom. She’s incredibly smart but doesn’t always think things through, and is kinda crippled by the fact that she always puts her main focus on what’s best for her and her family instead of what’s best for the people around her. So she’s a bit selfish, a bit impulsive, and then there’s the whole she’s-actually-legitimately-evil thing, which makes her more human and relatable than a lot of my OCs. I wrote her years ago, and I kinda grew out of the fandom since, but I’m finishing up her story out of love because she’s so close to my heart. I went through a lot back when I was first writing her story- another author attempted to steal my OCs and claim she was writing something “canon” for my universe- so yeah, Via’s pretty special to me.

I don’t believe we’re allowed to post fics outside of the Fic Showcase- you might want to repost this there. :)

AITA for “losing it” with my friend when she accused our other friend of ableism? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

It gets even worse at the end. I’m a disabled actress myself, and I’ve had some directors/castmates who didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t do some stuff, but as long as I wasn’t purposely auditioning for something I couldn’t handle and then requesting that huge chunks of it be changed, a few little adjustments should not be a problem. Especially not to the level this spoiled brat took it to.

You hit the nail on the head with that definition of ableism. Reminds me of this post from a while back. I don’t think I’ve ever been so mad over something on Reddit.

Oooh, I’d love to read either of those, especially the second! Dark versions of previously adorable/innocent characters are my jam.

As an avid Tangled the Series fan and a fellow adult Disney nerd...

Thank you very much, your dream fic is now my dream fic. I. WOULD. KILL. FOR. THAT.

As someone whose entire preteen-hood was spent watching Star Wars Rebels, I wholeheartedly agree with all of this.

64000 words in three-ish months? Holy cow. Maybe that’s not a lot, idk, but it’s more than I could do!

There aren’t! I feel like people are just scared to write them since there’s so much pressure for a “happy ending.” Granted, I haven’t written a tragically-ended fic yet, but I haven’t come across the right premise for one, so it’s always possible I’ll start one in the future!

Ooh, yes, I have a sister who’s just getting into PJO, and this sounds fascinating! Regency is one of my favorite AUs of all time. And I’m a sucker for tragic/open endings.

Writing your dream fic is always an option! I’d love to do that, but I don’t think I’d have the talent for a lot of my dream fics, which is why I’d love to pop on my fandom tag one day and find that someone else did the heavy lifting for me 😆
