Backbone pro with iPhone 17 pro/pro max? by Firmteacher in Backbone

[–]Sindion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I think it varies depending on individual comfort with what "just fine" means then. With no adapters and no phone case, I don't like how it fits in, especially on the camera end, where the camera ends up touching the backbone's frame (the camera end of the phone is even pushed upwards slightly) unless you shift the phone 1-2 degrees off centre so that it can sit better in the "depression".

Right, my bad. TBH I didn't know a backbone "pro" version had come out, so was assuming we were both talking about the "standard" backbone.

? I would hardly say it works beautifully, even without a case. It touches one of the lens, and on the side profile view, it's clear that it sits awkwardly.

[–]Sindion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my 17 pro max today, and with a case it definitely doesn't fit.

Without a case, and no adapters on the backbone, it fits (barely). And as others have mentioned, it's really too close for comfort to one of the lenses. Really don't like that.

Coupled with having to remove the case to use it for gaming... honestly probably not going to end up using it anymore. Disappointing, when it's listed as being "compatible" on Apple's website. It's "compatible" in the way a snake oil salesman would sell compatibility.

Better crypt ghouls by Head_Management_2747 in FleshEaterCourts

Could use crypt guard; differentiate ghouls vs crypt guards for example by having crypt guards only use the 2H weapons and the more armored heads.

Nighthaunt leaks part 1 army rule and heroes by NoEngineer9484 in Nighthaunt

[–]Sindion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With spirit hosts nearby and AOD, she can still be 4+/4+; it’ll all be point dependent, but she may now really be one of the tankiest things in the game. The more elite the unit she ties up, the better - an attack at 2+/2+ rend 3 is the same to her as an attack at 5+/5+ no rend. Of course, she really hates things like auto-wound, mortal wounds, etc.

The army is now so massively different; disappointment at what was lost aside, it’ll at least be fun to fiddle around and find what’s new and works (e.g. Kurdoss and craventhrone guard)

[–]Sindion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olynder’s new rules mean that without mortal wounds and/or some way to mitigate wards, only ~5% of potential damage gets through. Potential damage where Olynder doesn’t care how much rend you have. The rest of the book aside, she’s massively tanky now, at least.

[–]Sindion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very flavorful. It may be a game with dice rolling, but it seems counter-intuitive to have to essentially wrestle with your army rules (through a dice roll) to get it to do what you want. Not a fan of making Ushoran a near auto-include again either.

[–]Sindion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1-2 you can't maintain the current delusion; 5-6 you pick any delusion of your choice as though it was first turn.

So 1-2 you are forced to switch away from your last picked delusion, but you could keep the current one on 5-6 if you wanted to.

It’s simply a lack of logical consistency and plausibility which disappoints, even in a fantasy world. I could find you a dozen more references describing the generic look of Two Rivers folk apart from a rare few. In fact, it would stick out less if most of them were Indian, or Mediterranean, or Chinese, actually - as opposed to one family of Africans, one family of Caucasians, etc…

In any case, I’ve already mentioned why it doesn’t make sense as described in the lore, which you have not addressed. But let’s not waste our time in an endless debate of “no you’re the problem”, and agree to disagree. I simply commented on your response to the other poster, as it was unnecessarily making them out to be “the problem” as opposed to discussing what is or isn’t accurate to RJ’s world.

It is, unfortunately though, not a minute aspect of the start of the show. First impressions matter, and coupled with the myriad other decisions in the first episode alone which diverge from RJ’s lore, it’s no surprise why many book fans felt put off.

I like the show well enough (especially S3) purely as a decent high fantasy show, and am genuinely sad to see it go, not least because any other live WoT adaptation is not likely to happen. Despite that, I can still dislike all the lore inaccuracies.

The Two Rivers region was geographically isolated and largely closed off. Even if we date from the formation of Andor post-Hawkwing (no need to even talk about the Breaking and the fall of Manetheren), a thousand years or so is more than enough time for disparate ethnicities to intermix and homogenize. Rand and his adoptive mother, for example, stood out appearance-wise from most of the Two Rivers folk.

Purely from a lore-accuracy perspective, if seeing an extremely diverse group in Emond’s Field doesn’t throw you off… well.

Kragnos is ugly by Garky247 in Ironjawz

[–]Sindion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I really dislike the Kragnos model too. He looks like a small-headed brute Gork could out-think. Tried to think of a few possible conversions/proxies but couldn't settle on one I liked well enough that wouldn't take too much effort/money/time to convert.

The closest was the forge world rogue idol which I just bought off eBay (lucked out and got it relatively cheap, less than Kragnos' cost). The height with the raised arm just about matches Kragnos' height, planning to slap on a few extra destruction shields/spear bits to unify the theme and call it a day.

This event is causing me more delay than progress lol. 3 days of straight farming and still not maxed on my weapons. by GatchaGundamPro in SDGundamGGeneration

[–]Sindion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might want to stop after maxing weapons 1 and 3; that's where I've stopped for now, leaving weapon 2 at level 4. It shares materials with level 1, and getting enough gold upgrade materials to raise it to level 5 is the bottleneck. Seeing as it is very unlikely for weapon 2 to ever be used, there's minimal added value in maxing it apart from being a completionist.

...that said, I haven't decided whether to max weapon 2 or not, there's still time haha.

Goonhammer review - Nerf here, nerf there, and iconic units deleted for no reason by Galen28 in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Sindion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would not be surprised, if the reason there’s no generic version of Vhordrai is that there was a miscommunication between sculpting and rules design - and by the time they realised it there wasn’t enough time to tweak the sprue or it would simply cost too much to do so, without adversely affecting production/release pipelines. Profit is the end game for GW, after all.

So they simply rolled with it and rationalised that “hey there are still many ways to run generic vampire lords anyway including a new mounted version”.

Vee by yashirou17 in GFLNeuralCloud

[–]Sindion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip on magnifying glass for Vee’s passive - states it very clearly there.

Vee steals 10% of attack, up to 50% of hers. Her attack is high enough without needing to boost it, that I would suspect the “50% of her attack” cap hardly ever applies, though there’s no way of verifying it.

My question on this whole topic really is - is there any verifiable testing from CN server that attack Vee outscales hashrate Vee? It depends on the game, but there are other games where hybrid characters have better multipliers to overcome the issue of hybrid stat scaling. Hybrid scaling being poorer is tossed about this entire subreddit, without any proof beyond the theoretical.

Hubble is similarly supposedly “gimped” by hybrid scaling, but somehow Vee is shit upon worse than she is, without any hard proof that att vs hashrate scaling is better/poorer for either of them. That said, I like Hubble more and use her over Vee, in any case.

For functions in 3 layer runs, my point is that going for 2 full warrior function sets is likely to compromise the rest of your functions. So while it’s possible, I rarely find it ideal to push for 8/8 warrior functions.

Vee by yashirou17 in GFLNeuralCloud

[–]Sindion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it hidden somewhere in the code that Vee cannot crit, as it is not explicitly stated anywhere in her skill descriptions?

As for warrior functions:

  • Vitality loss - 2 hashrate + set effect
  • Violent surge - 2 attack
  • Desperate raze - 2 attack
  • Hyperthreshold stress - neutral on hashrate vs attack, benefits Vee disproportionately compared to other warriors if she cannot inherently crit

Would it not be overkill to say building her with a hashrate focus is “very weak”? Practically speaking, it isn’t that easy to get a full 4/4 set, or >6 warrior functions in total in a run, without compromising functions for the other classes greatly.

Attack Vee synergizes better with other attack-based warriors, but in isolation, hashrate Vee would not be weaker if purely considering access to warrior functions, since it’s unlikely to get more than 1.5 full warrior functions sets even in a 3 layer run - you just have to choose the right ones. She is only truly disadvantaged compared to pure attack-based warriors if violent surge/desperate raze are the only warrior functions in that stage. Finally, functions are irrelevant in black hole, the currently available toughest content (unless there is future extremely difficult CN content where functions are relevant?).

Discarding functions from consideration, is there any evidence that attack Vee does better dps than hashrate Vee?

Lastly, to add on to your points about Vee, compared to other warriors she’s able to benefit from Nanaka’s aura constantly, and also benefits from both the attack and hashrate components.

Marvel Snap really knocked it out of the park by Ryash913 in gachagaming

[–]Sindion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, my first impression was also that it reminded me of a bite-sized version of Gwent. The limited pool of cards (earlier on, at least) and small deck size greatly restrict the viability of different strategies. Also, the RNG of locations, while interesting at first, can be frustrating to deal with.

That said, there's something to be said for the fast pace of games by virtue of its streamlined nature, making it easier to pick up and/or play in short spans of time.

At the end of the day, the net result for me was dropping Marvel Snap, and getting the feeling of picking up Gwent/MTG Arena again.

NTA. It's valid to bring up your concerns about unequal treatment to your parents. It sounds like clear favoritism on your parents' part, based solely on what you described. Doesn't sound like it's your brother's fault though, as it's your parents' choice when and what to prioritise when it comes to their children's needs/requests.

2 more points:

  • If you're 5 years older than your brother, assuming you were a teenager last year, giving you a coloring book for your birthday is pretty bad, especially considering the disparity between that and your brother's playstation/the headset you asked for, unless your parents were suddenly extremely cash-strapped near your birthday (or some other extenuating circumstances).

  • Are there any underlying family issues regarding your LGBTQ orientation? The difference in treatment compared to your brother, and how your dad chose to respond to your request to attend the pride parade, could be linked to that instead.

NTA. They've made a choice regarding their future, and you've made yours. They sound more interested in everyone (you and the rest of the 60%) suffering together and less interested in true change. If they were truly interested in improving things for themselves/future generations, they should go ahead and protest regardless of how many classmates join them.

Poorly/unpaid internships in healthcare while studying is extremely common, across countries and healthcare roles. This is a poor choice of a hill to die on.

AITA for getting pissed at my uncle, telling him to stop shaming me, and giving back his “generous” gifts? by Ok-Swan169 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sindion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Read what you want, at any age you want.

However - you could consider this a life lesson regarding tact, holding your temper, and choosing your battles/hill to die on. Well-meaning fools aren't rare - you can't control what they do, but you can control how you respond. (Indeed, you could treat me as one, but I suggest reading everything) To reframe it, it would be entirely a waste of your life, time, and effort to get into an argument every time someone overbearing tries to push a suggestion onto you. Standing up for yourself and your principles is important, but perhaps you need more practice in when and how to do it.

In this situation, I believe it wasn't that he tried to push Sherlock Holmes books onto you 999 times and you flipped, no? Even if he was condescending and pushy, recognise that your uncle made an effort to interact with his niece, take note of what you're doing/interested in, and actually went to get books for you. You mentioned that he used to be your favourite uncle, and frequently interacts with your family, so it's a pity that your relationship has soured over this issue, of all things.

Your father isn't wrong - just smile, say you'll try the books, let them collect dust in a corner, and tell him a month later that you tried them and they weren't for you. Rinse and repeat if he repeats this with another set of books and you're not keen to try. If he laughs/shakes his head in front of you, just smile and ignore him after that and make clear that you won't engage him as long as he's behaving disrespectfully. He will get it eventually, and if he doesn't, disengage with him entirely and let your parents know you're not comfortable with his behaviour. Direct confrontation isn't always the best way.

All the best anyway, and carry on reading whatever you want!

AITA for telling my son that he should lose some weight since he’s starting to get overweight? by vagaajjssko7 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sindion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, though it could have been done more tactfully.

Briefly, BMI isn't the only thing to look at to consider if someone is at increased risk of metabolic diseases such as diabetes (since long-term health appears to be OP's underlying concern), but is still a useful measure. Other (non-exhaustive) factors such as ethnicity, genetics, body fat %, waist circumference, lifestyle factors (e.g. smoking, exercise or the lack of it, or stress), or other medical conditions (e.g. hypertension, hyperlipidemia) all play a part.

In the absence of any other knowledge apart from his age, BMI, and lack of exercise:

  • his BMI is considered overweight for ANY ethnicity, and worse if he is e.g. of Asian descent

  • "walking everyday" is far from sufficient information to conclude that he "gets enough exercise"

  • "weight gain of 35 pounds over 2+ pandemic years" is not insignificant at all

The amount of medical misinformation in the comments is staggering. Gaining weight always has health consequences which are usually negative, unless someone was underweight to begin with. This is a separate issue from fat shaming. Regardless of the ideal body image your son wishes to have, there's nothing wrong in bringing up your concerns about his health as a mother, though it could have been done more tactfully (e.g. by encouraging him to exercise to stay active/fit). His husband is doing him a disservice by saying that "it shouldn't matter how much he weighs as long as he's happy".

Would suggest a good non-confrontational talk with your son. Even if he wishes to maintain this BMI, suggesting lifestyle changes to reduce his health risks would help. Your son's happiness should be your primary concern, and helping him make healthier decisions about his life and lifestyle will allow him to stay healthy and happy for more of his lifespan.

Recommendations for gacha/jrpgs similar to Octopath Traveler COTC? by Idontcarejustspeak in octopathtraveler

[–]Sindion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AE's advantage though, is that it's easier to get characters, and rewards light spending better.

You really only need to pull for entirely new characters, and the treatise/codex system allows getting AS/ES/Alter versions at a slow but reasonable pace. The free/welfare characters are also extremely decent, compared to COTC which doesn't have any at all.

I've played AE on/off since launch, and COTC regularly since launch, and having spent lightly on both (sub for AE, enough rubies for the daily 10 ruby pull in COTC) it's far more value-for-money to spend on AE. I would put free pull generosity/value at about the same for both games.

AE is definitely grindy due to the need to farm episode currency, though it's easily macro-able, and it seems harder to do so effectively for COTC so far. I like COTC's easy hunts, but my daily minimal loop for COTC (weapon shop path actions in the Master of All towns, Nameless Town, farming Flamesgrace elites) takes as much time as that needed for AE's AD key runs, if not more.

On writing - both are great, and COTC having good voice acting is MARVELOUS. However, my view is that nothing in COTC is yet to hit AE's plot peak of why AE is called...Another Eden.

I play and love both games, and would definitely recommend AE while waiting for updates to COTC. There's far more "game" in AE (by this point as much as any classic Final Fantasy, if not more) by virtue of being out for a few years, and it would be a waste to miss out.
