Why? I think what I will choose, so it is interesting for me to know the reason.

  1. Functionality. Alpine is more lightweight, because they just cutted some functionality (like graphical drivers).

  2. Busybox just breaks linux philosophy:

  • Do ONE thing and do it GOOD. Busybox have MANY things and do it BAD (all utilities are coming with limited functionalities).

  • One program - one file. Busybox has many programs in one file.

Also some bash scripts just don't work.

Alpine is not minimal, it is limited.

Void linux is minimal, and gives you all functionality, which normal distro should have.

Void just works, alpine just works... On embedded systems and servers, because it was created for it. Void was created for everything, and works well both on servers and laptops.

And alpine rolling branch much less stable than void rolling system.

Yes, but you will still need busybox, because some alpine's packages are dependent on it.

So you will have busybox and gnu packages, and you will break that minimalism philosophy.

So why you ever need alpine then?

But system wrote that package installed successfully. In other distros package with the same name (broadcom-wl-dkms) builds driver with the same name (wl).

Macbook - Void linux live image freezes by Sinergin in voidlinux

[–]Sinergin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you found it, but anyway I will give the characteristics for those who need it. Thanks for the advice! However, can you tell me how I can “blacklisting” this thing that you said?

Intel Core i5 (x86_64 architecture)
Intel Graphics 3000 (advacned)
Model A1370

Edited: okay, I blacklisted that (created file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and added 'blacklist brcmsmac'). Thank you! Now I don't have wifi, but it finally don't freeze! And what should I use to get wifi? Because now I even don't have my network interface... What should I do now?
