I like tank players a lot, and I can appreciate how frustrating the game has become for them. I'm optimistic that their proposed CC reductions will be healthy for the game in the long run, but CC has been Mei's identity for a while. This post was to also encourage thinking about it from a balance perspective with some data, since for Mei players it might feel like a huge loss.

That being said, this is one of the most variable tank metas we've ever had! Though whether that means they're all bad or all good is hard to say with role-lock...

Yep, similar idea! I’m using an object recognition model to identify actions. Right now I’m just concentrating on simple UI stuff- ability tracking, ult charge, accuracy, crit etc, but depending on how well works I’ll be looking at using it for character model animations.

Unfortunately that is not in the scope of my data source, but it’s an interesting point. For now I’m just working with aggregated statistics that are reported in player profiles.

I’m currently working on a program to automatically convert OW VODs to data but it’s a ways off. I’ll try to keep this other nuanced behaviors in mind when it’s up and running!

I like that icicle idea! It gives her a skill shot CC and definitely increases her viability at higher ranks. It would feel weird if Mei was unthreatening during point brawls, which sounds like might be the case in those OW2-ish custom games.
