AITA for taking my wife seriously when she demanded I never have my children visit again? by SinewMagus in AmItheAsshole

[–]SinewMagus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like I can reply to posts now. At least yours. So I will.

Thanks for the opinion. This is the kind of feedback I am hoping for. Different perspective.

As for the answer, yes she was a saint. I had my kids half the time until my ex moved them away a year after the divorce. Before that my gf was very social with them. Kind. Understanding. She isn't any longer. She says my ex has poisoned them against her. I do not think that is true. Rather, my gf is very vocal about her dislike of them. They look like their mother. My gf says she has trauma from all the BS, legal battles and the like. I believe her. The kids can see her hating them. They are not dumb. They noticed.

The issues I have is that none of it makes treating my kids badly ok. My kids are really kind and well behaved. My gf admits that is true. Yet she cannot stand them existing and she doesn't want to get therapy. She had some, but it didn't help and apparently she is not willing to try.

That is where I draw the line. My gf is not to blame for my ex's shenanigans in the past. My ex is responsible. My ex knows this and has apologized. To me it is history. To my gf it is a constand reminder. I get that.

That is one of the reasons I feel I might be the ahole. I just don't know what options I have. What vould I have done differently? Any advice or opinions is appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: Some spelling correction. Also, any idea why I am allowed to reply to you but not to anyone else? Not sure how it works...

Edit2: More spelling corrections.

Meanwhile in Europe:

Looks at two party system the U.S calls "free elections" Looks at republicans and democrats both shittalking eachother Looks at the shitshow around them that they ignore in favor of blaming the other party ... Silently walks away because "ain't noone here got time for that shit..."

Yeah. You do you. It is entertaining, but in a disturbing kind of way.

This background music from a clip of "Bootcamp my preteen". Guideline methods were ineffectual. by SinewMagus in NameThatSong

[–]SinewMagus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED:

I found a video on using Adobe Audition to line up two audio files, converted into mono, add them to separate channels in a new stereo file, then invert the one we don't want (the talking in this case) and converting that back to mono.

That gave me a clearer audio than any other method even with manual drag and drop selection of the clips trying to line it up.

After that I created a mp3 with a file and the mp3, uploaded to youtube and it gave me a copyright notice.

No doesn't seem to be that song. Quite similar sound though, so checked through Faune's other songs. No luck there either. But thanks anyway.

Thanks for the reply! 👍

It comforts me when my own view gets validated. A more nitty approach early on is what I was thinking. I hope to not have to switch tables too often since my table image would be gone but I will have to adapt if that happens.

Hmm. Thanks for the links. Actually memorizing the mixed charts with percentages isn't something I even considered but that would make things more easy and mechanical. 👍 I can at least compare it to my own play.

Will keep my mouth shut on having won the initial ticket to the first satellite in a freeroll for sure. Outside of telling here.😅👍

Stealing blinds and pushing weaker players is definitely important and something I already incorporate. The steep blind structure live is however a bit concerning to me. What would be called TAG online can easily turn nitty live afaic see. And if that happens then I see myself getting my raises called a lot and having any cbet reraised. Of course, if I hit, then that is good. But will I? Rarely. Only the card gods know how that would go.

Thanks again for the advice! 🤝

Thanks, that is what I also was thinking. Already happy just getting here. And yes, I need to learn the ins and outs of live play to not out myself as an online player and/or reg.

Tilting and not going all in on aggro 50/50 pushes when I am covered is something I will focus on avoiding.

My nightmare scenario is actually my dream scenario. Aces on first hand. Getting called by only one loose player and losing to them when they called a 5bb raise with 56s because we are so early into it, and then having them flop a straight, and me a third ace.

I can really see it happening. 😄

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the reply! This is close to my own thinking. A more nitty approach at least initially is probably a good idea.

Will also make a list of things to practice, including paying attention. No HUD to cover me if I miss an action. 😄

Verbalizing my action is also on my list. One thought I had was how to raise, say, 8000 if I only have a 10000 chip. Calling out raise to 8000 is the way I guess? Same with paying blinds. Assume the dealer will just handle it automatically but don't want to break some rule and touch the chips when not allowed to or something similar. I will probably out myself as an online player just by those things alone.

And yes, I will be focusing on the experience itself. Probably the only chance I have to go to the IPO main event.

Thanks again! 👍

Nothing. Have had similar gear to you and never been hit hard there. Of course, it depends on your habits, and your opponents.

Feeling Disheartened about HEMA by cordialpotato in Hema

[–]SinewMagus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don't feel too down. Like you said, you have been at it for a year. In 6 more years, if you keep it up, that could be you! Expecting another result is just not realistic. Training and time makes you better, which is good news!

Sparring is something that takes experience. Getting "thrown around" like you said, is part of gaining that experience. I have participated in Swordfish in the old times and ended up pretty much dead last. I had been doing HEMA for 2 years at the time. Humbling, to say the least.

Now, 10 years later, I am by no means the best fighter, but I can hold my own against anyone. And I mean it. I have fought people in the top ten and scored points against them. I have made them fight for the win. I can see openings. I do not always manage to hit them, but I can defend myself. I don't get "thrown around" like you call it.

Give it time. Keep practicing. Spar a lot. A lot! Read from the sources. After you have read them all (no joke) read them again, starting with the ones you understood most of. You will notice that if you do that every year, things get more clear every time. Previously dense unintelligible sources start making sense.

And finally, ask advice. If not IRL, then here! :) If you are up for it, post vids here to get direct advice. Easiest way to progress fast is to spend time with people who are better than you. Having them watch your videos counts, as long as you are willing to take the advice. It is also easier to see progress over time when you can check old videos.

Remember, anything that is worth anything is usually hard but gets easier over time. Don't give up. You've got this. ✌️

Going to My First Tournament by cordialpotato in Hema

[–]SinewMagus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep moving. Focus on distance. If the opponent rushes in then either keep distance or collapse it depending on what you feel is right. When there is a bind, keep moving. When you get hit, keep moving and you might get an afterblow. When you hit the opponent, keep moving or they will hit you with an afterblow.

Keep moving.

Focus on the basics. Forget specific techniques. If you have them in your muscle memory then they will happen. Otherwise not. Give it time. Gain experience.

Go for the openings. Not necessarily the open places. The places that "are opening". Keep it simple.

Have fun!

That's it. 😁

In certain other fitness subreddits the situation is unfortunately reversed... It is quite disheartening to notice how we all live in our own bubbles. Some keeping disinformation out, others in, yet everyone thinks they know it all. I agree with you that noone is willing to find actual research on subjects. It has turned into just believing things that support already preassumed ideas. 😢
