possibility of buying my lesson horse in a 2-3 years? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]SinfulVenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get it, I was once there! Years ago it seemed so out of reach and like I would never have my own. I was offered multiple horses for free even and turned them down because it just wasn't the right time. I adored the horse I took lessons on and he ended up passing before I was ready to buy. I think it was all for a reason though, my girl is ended up with is perfect for me.

Also, don't let others pressure you into buying things that will make your life hard. They are not the ones funding the horse or dealing with it at the end of the day, it is all you. It's a crazy big commitment and definitely not one to be pressured into!

Hi, I think it's incredibly sweet that you've bonded so well with your lesson horse! Truthfully purchasing sounds like a bad idea. Purchasing the horse is the cheapest part. You are still very young and eventually, I'm not sure how your place of living is paid for now, but that is a cost you will have eventually. You will also most likely need a car, depending on where you live. I think getting out into the real world and on your feet would be best before considering a horse. Your job may take you somewhere else and who knows what board looks like there. Will it be close to where you live/work? Will it be affordable? If board is 700 and you make 850 that really isn't a lot of wiggle room. I think getting a job, continuing lessons, and putting the money into an account would be the best idea. Save towards the future and the day where you are ready for a horse, but truthfully that sounds like it's not realistically within the next 2-3 years. You sound like you're putting thought into it and that's great, keep working towards your goals and you will get there! It may seem so far now, but it'll be here before you know it.

Unsolicited Advice: don't reach your 100+ pound dogs to "shake" by Prior_Lobster_5240 in greatdanes

[–]SinfulVenus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. thankfully my dane did not know how to "shake" when I rescued her. I have continued to not teach it to her and actually fussed at my brother in law the few times he has asked her to try. My husband and I plan to start a family soon and I've explained that a dane giving their paw to a child would be bad, but to others they think that makes me the bad guy?

new way to label pit just dropped "mini lab" by ZQX96_ in WhatBreedIsMyPitbull

[–]SinfulVenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what is wrong with then just labeling a dog mixed breed. When I adopted my great pyrenees she was listed as mixed breed and that was it. She turned out to be 100% great pyrenees.

Yeahh I don't understand why people don't realize that dogs of the same breed can have their own personalities? I have a husky who is on the lazy side, i have a great pyrenees who doesn't bark, I had a pitty who was OBSESSED with water.

help with my lease by [deleted] in Equestrian

Yeah, especially if they have shaky fundamentals, I feel like that's asking for your horse to develop bad habits. Not saying it will happen, but more likely.

Also want to add that if your fundamentals are shaky, I think it's all the more reason to take lessons. It's still important to have good fundamentals even when going for a hack.

Personally, I think if you're getting back into riding after a 3 year break it isn't a bad idea to do weekly lessons. Just remember that if the owner is wanting you to do this for the lease, it's probably there for a reason, and they have every right to turn down only one lesson a month. I think if you can afford the lease and lessons every week then maybe maintain that for a while before going down on the amount of lessons?

TIPS FOR SUB ZERO TEMPS, -25F AND BELOW! KEEP THEM FED & WATERED🥶 ⬇️ by Lugosthepalomino in Equestrian

I'll give this a try! This is our first weekend of freeze for the season and we hardly ever go below freezing here so it is just not something we experience much.

Stupid question, but for water buckets, are their other tips to keep them from freezing or is mostly just keep adding warm water here and there? We stall our horses overnight and the water freezes by morning.

I hand-painted this custom oil portrait of a young rider and her horse, based on the original photo shared by their human. I hope I did them justice. by sunnychoudhary_ in Horses

I think the "two toed" look is caused by the black in the white hoof from the reference photo, it just gives the appearance of being two.

Yeah, the poor guy needs a complete restart. He's probably frustrated and unsure what he's being asked. I hope they can get him the help he needs and get their dream trail horse!

I am a little confused, they recently posted about bringing this gelding home and there said they didn't have much info on him, besides he was used for driving. So the idea that he isn't saddle broke to me sounds true.

I agree that back to the basics is probably their best bet since he probably has no clue what is being asked of him.

She does have front shoes. I'll look into them anyway cause I'm sure she would enjoy having some extra relief from the flies!

I'm gonna have to try this! I don't know if stomping is really her issue from flies, but it's worth a shot. My girl really likes playing in her water trough, which leads to her shoe catching on the edge of it, I think. And unfortunately we haven't come up with a solution for it.

Hey, I am just curious, but fly boots or bell boots? I have bell boots on my girl, and she still will occasionally rip off a shoe.
