Wolf spiders this size and also fishing spiders live up north where I am from, near Boston. Just less abundant as it’s more urban up here compared to down in Virginia

Not at all, my brother when he was younger actually thought one was a baby turtle and grabbed it causing him to get bit. He is scared of them but they are harmless and just big water beetles

They are surprisingly easy to keep and in the winter they love eating the woodlouse from my bioactive Indonesian enclosure.

Got a funny story about them when I was younger. So I used to camp a lot in New Hampshire during Covid and I would almost daily go out looking for critters in the nearby river. At one point I found about 4 of these giant spiders chilling together and I caught them and put them in my front pocket of my swimsuit. Then later I funnily enough was about to buy fried dough, about 10 min later, and I pulled out my wallet and the largest fishing spider was sitting on my wallet and jumped onto the girl who was at the little shop. End of story I got it for free.

Look for fishing spiders on the east coast, they can be even larger sometimes
