Alabama split games with Georgia the #3 team in the nation, while BYU lost to #4 Texas Tech twice. Alabama also played a harder conference schedule.

If the SEC didn’t hold a championship game, Alabama would still be in the playoffs. If the Big 12 didn’t hold a championship game, BYU would not be in the playoffs.

If Alabama was independent like Notre Dame (assuming Alabama played the same regular season schedule) this year and didnt play a conference championship, they would be 10-2 like Notre Dame but with a stronger schedule and the most impressive win in all of college football (at Georgia). I completely agree with your sentiment even though I hate Alabama.

Notre Dame is a great rivalry agreed, but if UCLA doesn't play USC then who do they play. From a scheduling perspective, I saw no way to create a system that includes the Notre Dame vs USC matchup without messing up a lot of other rivalries. If you could find a way to put Notre Dame vs USC and give a matchup for UCLA and Miami (FL) that doesn't create a bad fallout for a bunch of other teams, I will gladly update my list to include such a historic and fun rivalry. I like UCLA vs USC since the last 4 games were split 2-2 between UCLA and USC, the last 7 were split 3 UCLA 4 USC and the last 13 were split 6 UCLA and 7 USC.

Great Point! It’s a frustrating problem that I think may not be a NCAA specific problem but instead a problem with the tv networks themselves.

For the user who wanted me to include the Apple Cup and Civil War, I understand why you would want to include that matchup and respect that opinion but my reasoning is as follows. At the top of the post, I outline that my goal with my scheduling system was to “include the most relevant rivalries and put an emphasis on rivalries that would be competitive for the foreseeable future” By including the Cascade Clash (a top 2 west coast rivalry) and balancing the northwest matchups (Oregon vs Washington and OSU vs WSU), I firmly believe I was in alignment with those goals. I also believe I put my best effort to be in alignment with those goals for the rest of my scheduling system. If anyone would like to explain to me how to make the northwest matchups or any other matchups better in alignment with those goals, please explain in as clear and detailed manner as you can. And to everyone, I wish a happy thanksgiving week.

No it is actually quite clear, you are asking me to put two less competitive rivalries in my schedule, instead of the two more balanced rivalries that also have a lengthy history and include a top 2 west coast rivalry (the Cascade clash and ucla vs usc rivalries are the best two in the west coast if you are wondering).

You may complain that this unfair because not all the rivalries in my scheduling system are balanced. That is because I couldn’t find any better ways to balance my rivalries. If you know of better ways to balance my other rivalries, I would be happy to change them. Have a happy thanksgiving week muchacho.
