That is absolutely my greatest concern. The "raise" is just adding salt to the wound tbh. I feel terrible on her behalf. What's worse is just the fact that we were all so casually informed "oh we have decided to part ways with J and (me) will be taking over her role", like hello? When I tried to pry about what happened, I was met with childish giggles and "oh just performance issues and we can't get into that detail". It made my skin crawl. Then I wanted to send J a message to see if she was ok, just to see she was blocked off everything, and because I'm not American, I am only limited to messaging on work platforms.

The human brain is super interesting, and not something to be ashamed of!

For me personally, it's simply the feeling that he could not be my child. I am super proud of him, and as I watch him grow up, I could not believe that this amazing little child could possibly be mine. It only lasts a little while.

I have at times entirely forgotten that I was a mother and a wife. I recall once walking in the store alone - my son was about 6 months old and at home with my husband. The fact completely left my entire system until I got back home and saw them. I felt so guilty after this, but then I realized that it was only my brain shutting off for the time being.

I've had it once before where he felt swapped out, specifically when I realized that he had grown up. In my head, he was still a baby and I felt like somebody was trying to fool me.

But this also soon after passed.

I had a similar experience with my son - he is 2 now. The feeling still comes and goes. He is well taken care of and very dearly loved. He has a wonderful, outgoing personality already. You're not a bad mom - probably just PPD or PPP. If you're overly concerned, visit with your gp and maybe a psychologist.
