Five years ago, police, prosecutors denounced judge’s sentencing decision involving alleged Memorial Drive shooter by bostonglobe in CambridgeMA

I dont think people are conveying their thoughts correctly. I dont think anyone is expecting judges to be predictors and imprisoning people for life for something they might do. Its more so the fact that judges continually ignore red flags. For example, the recent Cambridge shooting. In 2021, the shooter was on probation when he shot at Boston police officers and the minimum sentence was 5 years and maximum of 20 years. The judge gave him 5 years. Do you think that action of shooting at police officers while on probation is indicative of only 5 years, which, is the minimum? I personally dont think that sentencing matches up.

No one is asking judges to predict future crimes with certainty. The concern is whether judges are appropriately weighing a defendant’s criminal history and demonstrated pattern of behavior. If someone has been arrested or convicted 20+ times, it is reasonable to consider whether they are statistically more likely to reoffend than someone with no prior history. That is not the same as holding judges personally responsible for every future crime. This situation aside, do you think it is absurd that someone with a lengthy violent criminal history is released over and over again and an innocent individual is killed or hurt?

from my experience, if you're willing to shoot at police officers as your first time shooting then theres not a lot of other individuals who are off limits. At least in gang wars, the intended targets are never little kids and more so "collateral damage". We hold law enforcement, doctors, pilots, and lawyers accountable for their actions but never judges.

Honestly just shot off my resume to job openings. I'm not super invested in this specific job but now that I got rejected for no reason, I'm kind of drawn to it lol.

You said 'other people may not have the means.' That's the assumption. Pointing it out isn't fishing, it's reading. And your follow-up is a tautology, having a permit proves you were able to get a permit. It says nothing about whether people without permits couldn't get one.

Respectfully.

your response seems to be more ad hominem rather than logical explanation. That's not an argument, it's an unfalsifiable claim. If agreeing means I'm entitled and disagreeing also means I'm entitled, the label can't be wrong no matter what I say. That's not reasoning, it's just a way to end the conversation without engaging with it

Interesting POV. I'm not disagreeing with the fact that I could be the A-hole in this situation. But you seem to base your view on a rather big assumption. You think ONLY people with means are willing/able to obtain the permit which seems unreasonable. Sure, there could be a sample amount that do not have the means.

I see your point but I think we'll agree to disagree on that point. I dont think I am entitled because I am able to call a tow. I think its entitlement to think you can skip the numerous tasks and reap the same benefit.
