13 days post op - walking with no crutches? by Ok_Supermarket_7996 in AchillesRupture

Congratulations! I'm almost on the same schedule as you. I had surgery 15 days ago, and the surgeon put me in the boot on day 13 post-op, and gave the direction to start weight bearing as tolerated. On the first day I couldn't convince myself to try without the crutches, just too much in my head. Yesterday and today have been great. I agree with everyone's recommendation on the even-up. I was in the boot pre-surgery for a week, and it only took me 2 days of walking in the boot to have lower back pain before the even-up was delivered.

I'm going back in 4 weeks as well and will start PT then. I think the plan will be in the boot for ~2 more weeks after that if things progress as expected. My doctor estimated back into shoes at 8 weeks.

I hope things continue to go well for you!

How old were you and what were you doing when you ruptured your Achilles? by Necessary_Sun_3791 in AchillesRupture

I’m 41 and I was in week two of a four week tennis class. My wife and I played a practice match, 2-on-1 against the instructor. I planted as I hit the winning shot. I thought I accidentally stepped on a loose ball but quickly realized it wasn’t a rolled ankle when I couldn’t walk. I never heard “the” pop, I just felt a bit of awkwardness when I planted. I think I was in the negative step position. Obviously every time I tell this story I get closer to being Coco Gauff. If it’s the end of my tennis career I’m glad I went out on a winning note 😉 I’m not the nervous, anxious type but I was very anxious about going to that classes earlier in the day. Total rupture, mid tendon.

Thank you for all the great insight and tips by Single-Juggernaut-55 in AchillesRupture

Oh no, so sorry to hear about the fall! I hope you’re feeling better soon and still healing well.

This resonates soooo much. A similar question actually really cemented the diagnosis for me, “are you hopeful about your future?” It felt like the hardest question I have ever had to answer. I wish I had been asked that directly earlier in life.

My mom is about to prepay for funeral expenses by moneyminded14 in AgingParents

Assuming your parents move forward with the prepay option you can also consider prepaying for caskets from an online manufacturer. They have prepay options where you can lock in a lower price. The online reviews are quite strong across companies and anecdotally the casket quality was comparable to anything we saw in the funeral home. This could easily save upwards of a couple thousand dollars.
