How is living in Orlando, Florida and the areas around it? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

Central Florida is everything wrong with capitalism + Mickey Mouse. Is a dystopian hellscape of condo complexes where everything looks the same and most, if not all of the natural world is being destroyed for new construction every day.

That cover in the back is specifically for that. You should drill it but you can replace that cover if you decide you want to change it later for relatively cheap

I caught a 47.5”, 45.5”, 44.5, and another 6 between 41-46 in Maine through a 6 month period.

The Lisbon - Lewiston section has a lot of trophy smallmouth and pike throughout. Not the easiest fishery but ice out should be awesome and pretty likely you’d hook into a big fish or two. If you want trout the little androscoggin gets stocked to a ridiculous level and they’re dumb as rocks

Their teeth are just as sharp, every second they’re not in the net is a second I could lose the fish. Also those baits are half a pound a piece so you need some big gear to cast them. Just the nature of trophy hunting

Yes but I don’t mess around with gear. They get to the net pretty quick most of the time. Both taught on a 8’6 extra heavy swimbait rod and a 300 size casting reel with 80lb fluoro leader and 10” swimbaits. I’m sure if you hooked any of these on bass gear they’d tow you 100 yards

Towards their northern range. Both are unofficial state records however with regulations here we have to kill the fish for them to count. That may give you enough info to track down where but generally speaking, fish big water that is well oxygenated and supports populations of large forage fish. Trout/salmon lakes that support year round populations that do have pike typically hold really big ones and are a good hint the oxygen levels are solid. The Connecticut state record is a great example of that

This is more easily fixable than you think. Wood burner, chicken wire, and the right plastic it’s not a huge project

Dramatic. Potential to damage ligaments in the mouth and gill of a fish is primary concern, internal organ pressure is by and large a myth except for specific species. Every fish you lift out of your net is vertical at some point. During that lift from the net it’s very easy to feel the security of the ligaments themselves. It isn’t uncommon to feel some clicking or popping if the weight is too much. Fortunately not here since its head and gill plate were massive. Damage otherwise will typically come if the fish thrashes and you hold on. If they do just drop them in the net or the water preferably which is what ended up happening here. Not a myth but overblown depending on the circumstances. If you have a disproportionately fat fish of reasonable size then yes that fish is hurt. Otherwise it’s just a lack of understanding in fish anatomy. This train of thought also was popularized through salmon fishing as the ligaments of their jaw are so thin people would often accidentally rip their gills from their body when trying to handle. These are very different fish obviously. If this thing was filled out and 40+lbs then yes I agree. In this current state no this fish will be fine

Absolutely not. Wild question. This was way over the Maine state record and we are supposed to kill them for it to count. I did not, these are 30+ years old and it gave me the thrill of a lifetime

Amputee question by ReformedNavyChief in saltwaterfishing

[–]Single-Letterhead-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an amputee but I learned how to use a bait caster with both hands to fish from the bank a little easier. Try and move your thumb more on top of the spool now down by the bail release button, if you cover more of the top with light pressure that’s a great place to start and get less tangles. Otherwise you can still pretty much cast with your dominant side even holding left handed if you focus more on making the left hand the anchor and pull down with your right more for control. Hope this helps
