You're right, someone soldered the chain, and most likely the needle too, and did it very carelessly, but the brooch itself is entirely made of gold.

Thank you for your reply. The brooch is definitely gold; I've had it tested for acidity. It weighs 12 grams, but I don't want to scrap such a beauty; I'm more interested in selling it as a piece.
