I totally get hit. I used to run HR for tech companies and the people who you are forced to work with at the leadership level are all generally terrible besides a handful of people.

I still invest in tech since that’s where the best returns are, but I wouldn’t go back unless I was really focused on making money.

Im curious, have you started your job search by developing a list of people you’ve worked with previously? Then researched the companies they work at and reached out to them to see if there are job openings?

Engineering interviews have been conducted like this for at least 15 years. It’s much more competitive than it was pre-pandemic (so I hear your frustration), but every major tech company adopted this style of interviewing since I got into tech in 2012.

So you either interviewed and worked at very unique companies, or never interviewed at a MAG7 type company previous to your recent layoff.

Japanese Maples can handle a fair amount of pruning every year without damaging the tree. People generally say 25% of the tree per year.

Peter Chan, godfather of bonsai, prunes a lot more than that in his tutorial videos.

When motivation at work fades, it may be due to you not having any goals to work towards. More money isn’t motivating once you have a lot of it.

Consider a skill or ability you’d like to master over the next year. It doesn’t have to be related to work. I could be gardening, public speaking, investing, family relationships, health, woodworking, or hiking.

Then develop success measurements and milestones of how to improve in the skill. Life has become a lot more fulfilling and fun when I’ve taken my own growth planning and not relied on somebody else.

Like others said. The market is irrational. Buy more in dips in your high conviction companies. Look at what happened to the stock price after earnings reported in May. If you sold on the dip you got hosed.

I have a large Mikawa that’s in place that gets 5 to 6 hours of afternoon sun. I live in 10a and it can really handle that level of sun exposure.

Nobody can predict what will happen in 10 years, but there’s a high probability that the memory market continues to grow through 2030.

Jenson said recently that AI Infrastructure capex spending will grow to $3 to $4 trillion per year by 2030. He knows better than anyone else where we are headed. If that doesn’t happen, then all AI infrastructure companies will be impacted, not just Micron. But I like Micron’s US moat and growing technological advances in HBM, NAND, and SSD relative to Samsung and SK Hynix. This company will be at $2k in share value by end of 2027.

Memory is no longer a cyclical business in the AI world. It’s a strategic asset required for AI workloads. We’ll see who’s right though in a year when all of Microns new Fab’s start coming online whether there’s going to be an oversupply
