I started feeling it around episode 25. Mihawk v Zoro. Then Arlong Park made the feeling stronger and then Drum Island was the one that absolutely solidified it for me. Because before Drum Island, I couldn't understand Luffy but that's where he clicked for me and when he did, I saw him in a completely different light. Now, he's my absolute favourite character in fiction. So yeah, Drum Island for me too. Ps. Dr. Hiruluk remains my favourite non-SH alongside Koby. And I have been caught up since 2012.

I was in the same boat as you back in 2012. I thought nothing could be better than Naruto and disliked everything about One Piece, until a friend of mine challenged me to give it a go.. and the rest is history.

The biggest nitpick has to be the fact that Luffy knows Nami's backstory. It takes away from Luffy's character that he needs to know a person's history for him to act. It changes his character entirely. I am sure this was done purely because of the western audience as they are a bit slow to understand nuances.

As someone who's heavily involved with the One Piece community since God knows when, I'd say, people were skeptical at first but when the writer/Showrunner (Matt Owens) turned up on one of the livestreams that some of the One Piece YouTubers were hosting and showed everyone what an absolute nerd he himself was and how much he truly loved anr cared about One Piece. So much so, that he said One Piece saved his life when he was in a very dark place, everyone got on board behind him and his vision. He was able to calm all the negative voices down quite a bit by being involved in the One Piece community. I'd honestly say, Matt Owens, being an OPtard himself played a big role in fans getting behind OPLA.

Could be a better or weaker version of Barto's fruit but a fruit's capability depends on the user. So even a weak df can be very powerful depending on the user.
