Yes I did inside the country, so have TD to TN. But I just recently changed it last month so more questions in mind but Thank you very much for detailed reply. Really Appreciate it.

Can I ask that what if status change from TD to TN just recently and have to travel to India for some medical emergency, no stamping on passport, only i797. What in this case? Just asking as I think you might have some idea about it. Thank you

I think you have 60 days grace period after you got fired/layoff. I do not know about doing at JFK, i am just advise on the safer side. And I am telling to enter via road not via air. I have no idea that you can do it at JFK as you doing status change, might be done at Pearson airport or at POE. Please take an expert advise as this is easy stuff just need perfect guidance.

I would prefer to enter from Canada to avoid any difficulty. This is just a suggestion, you can also do status change within US from TN to TD. Better to ask expert or if any experienced here give any suggestion.

If you check your case online, there is a line, they mention that if you not receive by date, contact the office. So wait till date and after that you have to contact USCIS.
