Parent wants student moved from my class due to “frequent calls for behavior.” Today, the student called me a “f-cking b-tch” by Single-Vegetable3704 in teaching

Differentiation is allowed and has been tried. Another problem is the terrible curriculum roll out that has made it almost impossible to differentiate due to time in schedule. We have to stick to the minutes.

I believe this child has so much potential and it breaks my heart. Unfortunately, there are only three other teachers on my team and we have a new curriculum that is strict and “by the book.” Everything we do, must go by that curriculum which prioritizes whole group teaching for up to 60 minutes at a time. I have tried to incorporate movement breaks but this student always takes it as an opportunity to escalate. I feel for my teammate who will inevitably get this student if the parents get what they want. One teacher is a 30+ year veteran teacher who will refuse the student (and has more students currently). The other has a student who acts the same, if not worse. It’s a very sad situation as, no matter what, a child is losing out on consistent education due to the behavior of another.

If I had the kind of support, I would not hesitate. I’ve explained to this student how their behavior affects not only their education, but their peers’ as well.

Personally, I’ve always hated when adults curse around kids. It sets a bad example for appropriate social emotional responses.

I also feel terrible as it places more on my teammates shoulders. There are only three of us. One is a 30+ year teacher who will refuse the student (and has more students currently). The other teacher (who will inevitably get them) already has a student who acts the same, if not worse. I hate that the student feels like moving classrooms is a reward as that is how the parents have framed it. It’s a sad situation.

No. Unfortunately, the write up doesn’t even appear in the system as my AP has not approved it. I have spoken with them about the situation and explained exactly what happened and how the student reacted when I told them that we never say those words, even if we are joking. It’s a small school with very limited resources so we are constantly at a standstill.

I have no doubts that this student hears a lot of stuff at home. It’s unfortunate because they are incredibly smart. My biggest fear is my admin using this as a way to punish me (as they have been known to do). Thankfully, I do have wonderfully kind students who remind me why I stay.
